I’m going to need you to stop developing these useless features and work on Lidar detection and better lens optics.
You’ve been banging that drum pretty hard.

You have some options and it sounds like it’s a very big problem with the amount of Lidar you see.

Sounds like you should have a radar detector that’s really good at radar

And a separate Lidar detector... that’s really good at Lidar.

There’s no free lunch.

Just watch the classifieds and pick up a simple 2 headed system. Maybe even one head?

Doesn’t sound like your concerned about jamming it .... so what do you care other than convenience... or being frugal?

Start as low as you feel comfortable ... since you only want to detect it... then, add to the system if you want to give yourself a fighting chance later on.

If you do not face any VPR guns... anything that can see it will do. You don’t even have to be careful in aiming it since your not worried about jamming it.

Nothing you haven’t already been told. Lol. Many do not see as much Lidar as you do.

Let’s get Theia to the market and protecting us from things that help us keep our licences clean... rather than waste a ton of resources and time for something that’s nothing more than a ticket notifier 99% of the time.... if at all.

Agree to disagree and I respect your opinion on it. If your really concerned.... you have other.... and better options ....as I’ve listed above. Something to consider.

Some people consider Lidar detection and better lens optics in a radar detector as useless features. :)

Lol, both Heywood and MikePA missed that joke. 🙄

What didn’t give it away? I thought for sure quoting a clear joke post from Jon would have done it. 🤦‍♂️🤪

I did miss that. Went right over my head until you just mentioned it.

The part that didn’t give it away to me was the past thread about the 4 Lidar saves the V1 did for you. That part.

LOL, the fact you did not use an emoji. LOL and as Heywood said, your past LIDAR thread. :reposthorse:

That was kinda the point in a way. Wanted to see who’d actually read this post as serious. Guess I got my answer. This was clearly a joke due to there not ever being any chance that Jon’s post was serious. Lol

Still this should not detract from my other posts on the matter... those were legit, this was just super dry humor. I’ll add an olive or two next time.

Perhaps it would be possible to build one TX/RX sensor into WS radar detector :)

That won't save you from DragonEye, but perhaps it will jam... something.

Just thinking outside the box.

It would add hundreds of dollars to the price of the detector and it would only jam a lidar shot from certain CPR guns fired at the windshield.

No thanks, I'll let my radar detectors be radar detectors and my jammers be jammers.

But it will have laser receiver anyway so I doubt it would add much to price to have emitter instead.

Is the laser receiver really that expensive? If it is, then PLEASE sell a cheaper version of Theia without the laser receiver so people with proper laser protection can save some money.

Neither I need laser detection for my RD. It's just that my inner engineer wakes up when talking about these things :)

I wonder how many would change their answer here if Radenso offered an external lidar sensor that attached to Theia.
Of course, Escort probably still holds the patent on that. :p

Great idea. I could easily install such a thing on my ride. Perhaps, it could connect to Theia via wifi and only need to be wired to the battery for power but, then again, it would just be letting you know that you just got nailed.

Not to start a rumour.... or say it’s a thing even.... but never say never.

We know how militent ALP is..... and how they control pricing, and implementation of their system with others..... the GPS/TX thing....

It’s a huge bite to take .... but sometimes when you tell people they can’t do something.... it just reinforces their drive to do it if they feel they can do it better.

You never know, and the escort patents... I just don’t know? Theia is suppose to have BT/Wifi/usb-c connectivity.... so hard to say how the interface might work. Above my pay grade.

We do know somethings about what went on in Theia/RAI’s development that give us hope that they might.... if they decided.... to go after that market sector.

1. DOD contractor helped in the horn design.
2. Sterling’s expertise on AI
3. Rob’s expertise on the RF side
4. Jon’s partner and financial backer, that is also an RD enthusiasts and past owner of Escort.

I also think there’s also a lot of things that have to go right on the radar side first before they attempt it.... but if RAI/Theia lives up to their claim... you never know.

I personally think they focus on the radar market first. Not saying they will ... but build on what they have in front of them.
1.Theia the premium market.
2. A lower priced, more mass market detector with a lower BOM using RAI’s tech
3. A remote installed system

Then, maybe after that... look at the jamming side. Just looking at it logically. It’s what I would do .... IMHO.

The talent is out there, and so far they seem to have gotten lucky finding the talent they have found... but we’re getting way ahead of ourselves.
Theia hasn’t hit the market yet to be dreaming of jammers just yet.

The cool thing is that if Theia can identify detected lidar makes/models, then not only will it be the only such product to do so, it will also begin building a database of usage levels and locations for various models--if users wish to allow those kinds of stats to be uploaded. It would be super cool if Radenso decided to go ahead and implement the infrastructure to create a very detailed database of radar and lidar usage, like a proper version of the RDFGS. It would be dependent on critical mass in each area to ensure clean an reliable statistics, but how cool would that be? Make, model, frequency, location (approximate) of radar and lidar sources would be sweet.

Any such database should have clean accurate data if Theia delivers on its' no false alarms promise. The only recorded alerts should be LEO originated, as opposed to Escort Live for example.

I think I’m kinda like you in that respect. I like multitaskers in one package. Sometimes I forget about the age old give and take sacrifice on things. Can I just get one perfect thing for once please?! Haha

I know what you mean; I like simplicity too. Theia sounds like it will vastly simplify radar detection. No more dicking around with filters, hwy/city sensitivity settings etc. Just set your alerting preferences (whatever they will be) and let Theia do it's thing. Unfortunately an RD that will also jam lidar doesn't exist. Radenso has stated that they intend to integrate with ALP to allow alerting through Theia, but we don't know if that option will be available at launch or sometime down the road.
Maybe Radenso will develop an IR diode that can effectively jam laser through a windshield. For now though, that's just dreaming.
