Here is something else to consider, in my experience when I call Valentine with a question if the person does not know the answer they send me directly to a tech that solves the problem. When I called Uniden there is no tech to talk to and in my case I had to wait three and a half months and many calls to Uniden to get a email two days ago telling me to go to RD forum to get my answer.

With respect to valentine fixing failed units I don't find that to be an exceptional step and it did take Vortex to have a failure before they did anything so there is that.
Yes, in normal day to day life I'd agree with you. But you are leaving something out.

Someone pointed out to you in the past that all Apple stores shut down abruptly and people have had to simply wait it out. (True? I don't actually know. I don't have Apple products.)

I also recall hearing that Escort was completely shut down at the same time. (Again, true? I don't know.)

Personally, this shutdown stuff is inconsistent enough to be ridiculous, but I'm not in Ohio as a Radar Detector manufacturer to deal with their local government and all that they are dealing with. Jon has been at Radenso alone quite a bit.

The extraordinary part is that they pulled together the proper stuff to get units repaired and sent back out in 2-3 days DURING this situation.

Also, it didn't take Vortex having a failure to start the process. It took Vortex having that failure for you to know about it. Other people were already in contact. :)

I have spoken to a tech at valentine so I know what you are saying. When Uniden was active on the forums a year or so back that was nice and they seemed to know a ton. Whoever the new rep was that took over outside of a few random posts vanished so that's over. Calling though I doubt anyone knows how things work and just says mail it in if you think it's broken and they will replace it. I had an R3 that I thought had weak range and never even called. Just mailed it in with a note that the range was poor and I had another one just over a week later with no interaction. Not great (probably an understatement) at all if you have a technical question on use and don't want another unit but as far as replacement goes the process was very easy so not all bad.

I wasn't aware of other users getting help on the side (or i missed those threads) so they must have kept secret at the time. I guess it helps to have Mike's cell number handy!! I just remember something like Mike reached out to Vortex and gave the previously unknown (i thought) email address created for defective units out and it became a sticky on here. I guess I stand corrected if other people were able to get hold of him prior to that. I didn't have that luck but only tried earlier into the "lockdown" and gave up. I don't shop Apple either but I imagine their retail locations were shut down in many states.

Good call. Fixed the power off issue by moving the fuse tap to the overhead console’s fuse. Weird how that one doesn’t power off while cranking, but perhaps the radio draws too much current. This new v1 is dope. All issues aside, the detectors get better and better. V1 gen 2 is so quiet I forget it’s a valentine

It's some arcane mystery how different manufacturers configure their cars. We have 2 SEATS, one Arona and my Leon Cupra. When I was fitting air horns, (I did hers first as it was easier) after epic swearing and time wasting I discovered that her car horn was negative switched and mine positive. WTF!

Apparently the memo was missed.

Uniden doesn’t make their detectors. I would imagine the fix would be a straight up replacement either in its original case or a new one.

I would imagine the damaged Uniden’s would be shipped back to Attowave in South Korea, or Attowave might have a place in NA for this.

So for either good or bad, your not going to get a tech as per-say, calling Uniden. They do not own the IP like Valentine does.
I think really the only company that could be comparable to Valentine, and the availability of speaking to a tech would be Escort... as they are the IP holder as well.

This poll was so late to the party it looks like it isn’t quite as useful as I imagined ☹
I still like the format, but it could be people not wanting to go to 2 different threads.

Yeah thanks. @croup did a great job of picking up problems from all the various threads and combining it, so that was the right solution
