Thinking of purchasing a V1 Gen2. Thoughts on X, and K bands.....

I was watching Matt Farah on TheSmokingTire YouTube Channel. The video itself is here

In the video Matt basically said that he does not use his detector in the city all that much. He mainly uses his detector on the highway. Now, to be fair he does live in Los Angeles and the traffic there is much different than in any other part of the country.

Basically, Matt said that he turns off X and K band which dramatically eliminates false alerts. I am wondering if this is not a genius idea. X band has been around for as long as I have been alive; at least. K band is has been around for at least 20-25 years or so.

I am probably going to order a V1 Gen2 sometime this week. I am seriously considering removing or locking out X and K band. I live in Lower Alabama on the Gulf Coast (Gulf of Mexico). We are slightly less than 2 hours from New Orleans and 45 minutes to an hour from the beach. I only have to worry with the Mobile County Sheriff's, Mobile Police Department, and Alabama State Troopers. What are your thoughts on this.

As I commented on Matt's video, California is pretty much the only state where you are reasonably safe to turn off K band. Even there, it's been reported in a community or two.

X band is rare but a couple of states still have that too.

Don't turn off K unless you are absolutely sure that it's not in use in your area.

If you search here on the forum here you will find listings on which states tend to run what.

In the meantime agree with the above. X you can turn off. K I wouldn’t. I’ve been hit with K in AL in the last two to three years, more than just once or twice.

I often keep X band turned off but I advise against turning off K band in AL. Not only have I seen K band in use in AL in 2019, there are new budget oriented K band radars available from Stalker and others. Who knows if or when any of these units will show up anywhere in the country?

While G2 has had some problems at launch, those problems are being addressed by the company. My G2's performance is amazing and I'd buy it again.

I plan on getting one in future after a few bugs maybe get worked out... I was going to go Uniden R7, but after having a R1 and a R3 ill pass. Reason is every time i had them up and running it just makes me feel i have a cheap piece of garbage up on windshield... Never cared for their build quality or looks.... and they look like a cheap 100 unit in my opinion.

K is prevalent all throughout the state with the only exception being Alabama State Troopers which are exclusively Stalkers KA 34.7....Mobile Sheriffs and Police I can't conform but travel down to the coast and casinos near you frequently and encounter K in almost every one of the small towns on the way.....X I haven't seen in many years and do not have turned on....Not saying there isn't any your way but I have never seen them....

That difficult to find really. It’s more of an experience kind of thing and knowing what’s around. Also agencies can always change what they use or have an old car with an old unit running something you least expect.

Down here our threat is C/O and I/O Ka with low power K for camera systems. These aren't as big a problem as camera tickets don't carry demerits.
I used to run just Ka, but now run K for interests sake.
Gen 2 with my JBV1 set up is extremely quiet. If I had to run higher than 24.110 I guess there'd be a bit more falsing, but Gen 2 appears to be much better on BSM's than most others, even run appless.

No need to shut up. Again, your preferences in a detector are yours and yours alone. You don't really need to justify them to anyone, and sorry if you thought I implied you should. You'll just find many (but certainly not all) here would prioritize performance above looks.

QT = quick trigger = short blast of I/O
As for TSR, that normally means traffic sensor rejection, but in the context of RDFGS, I'm not sure if it means there are traffic sensors in that area, or something else.

Again, remember the information in the RDFGS is dated. You could ask members in California for more current data to supplement/correct it.

New Zealand. C/O is constant on, I/O is instant on. It should really be I/O/C, instant orifice clenching. Our cops use Stalker DSR's mainly.
