V1G2 doesn't like the heat of 80 degrees and sunlight.

Or just spend $7 and send it back

It’s heating up in Dixie. 91°F in central North Carolina. Probably won’t have to wait long to see if the heat has any impact to the front screen display.

It hit 92 or 93 here in WI yesterday. My G2 was left mounted in my enclosed car with a sunroof all day. I figured that would be the test. So far my adhesive is staying stuck. It was hot in there too. The seats burned my ass through my jeans when I sat down! I leave mine plugged in all the time and it powers up with the car. I have had a few flickers and a few dropped connections from JBV1 so I'll keep watching for that.

Today I had a dropped connection the to my SM V1CD. Since the V1G2 was set to dark, I had no clue what was really going on. Powered cycled the V1, and the CD connected right back up.....

In another rdform topic I asked a similar question, Mine is getting very hot in the sun. I cjecked the specifications and it is rated at 158° F. That should be enough margin but I still don't like it.

Does the G2 have a red dot or something letting you know it's on in dark mode?

Nope, totally dark, and I always want it that way.... The standard CD shows actual status, where any BT app or display will give feedback when disconnected.

BTW I doubt, it was heat related...

I questioned whether to make a new thread for this, post it somewhere else, or put this here. I don't have any information that wouldn't be available to anyone else so I'm posting here. :)

I had a brief discussion with someone in-the-know ;) at Valentine Research about the display panels and I thought some of you would find this information interesting:

As we heard in the phone interview, they wanted something that shows a contrast in various light levels. That required a new vendor that could supply the cool-looking purple filtered stuff.
They are using the same type of adhesive-backed screen material as all V1s have since the first V1 in '92. The new samples were temperature-cycle tested and durability tested and passed the tests just fine. There were no failures in their working prototypes either.

Having modified one of my Concealed Displays a couple of years ago, I recall that the material on that was thinner than what the pictures I've seen of the Gen2 looks like. I wonder if that has something to do with it?

When they started to see a few returns for screen material coming loose, (which was very surprising I gather) they asked the vendor to change some material settings / values. I can't quite think of a better word here. Same materials, slightly different though. Maybe the adhesive is slightly different or the material is a bit more pliable; I forgot to ask for clarification. Of course, that might not be something that they would tell me anyway.

Changes have been made and the new screen material should surpass the longevity of even the Gen1 screen overlays going forward. :)

For those with the issue, I suggest you call them up and let them help you out with it.
I've only called VR a few times in my life and I've personally never had a bad experience. You've got to be pleasant and respectful with people though.

I absolutely love this new V1. Love it. 🤗 I’ll be disappointed if I have a problem but I’ll send it back and get it fixed. it kills the Uniden R1 on 35.5 range.😎

and the new V1 seems to be king of the hill at the moment on 35.5- from test results with the new Escort redline and R7.

35.5 is what I encounter 90% of the time
