V1 G2 & Magnet Mounting

Was ready to pull the trigger and order more magnets and build more adapters for the G2.
Then I had some of Vortex’s videos on auto play and he mentions that one detector that was designed to be mag mounted, had to be returned because it needed more shielding. Maybe I have too much time to think but, it occurred to me that Mike didn’t design the G2 to be mag mounted. Haven’t noticed a problem with the unidens or radenso due to magnetic proximity. So the question is - based on the disassembly pictures of the G2, what do the experts think? Asking for trouble or not??

If my older blendmount will work with the V1 adapter then I loose my universal mounting capability in the car that I’m most likely to be over PSL in... unless I go back to suction cups or visor mounts.

I believe this is in reference to the Redline EX, where they had an inductor on the PCB right underneath the mag mount, so by mounting or removing the detector you would generate a current in the inductor and cause a false alert. I doubt it would be a problem with the V1Gen2, but it wouldn't hurt to check.

@Up All Night... Are you installing your magnets directly to the top of the V1G2? or to some type of adaptor that will attach to the detector (i.e. Visor mount or other type adaptor)?

As I recall, weren't you going to have magnets on the windshield side of the suction cup bracket without the suction cups? I have no idea at the moment what's around that area within the horn assembly, but there's very little above the horn assembly in that area. If the magnets are not too strong, I think you'd be fine.

I've been using the Scosche magnetic magic mount for my V1G1 and now V1G2. I started using this mount about 6 months ago on the V1G1 and never noticed any difference in how it acts and reacts. V1G2 seems to be just fine as well.

My ‘ring’ locks the square magnet so it can’t turn. Was going to paint it black but, now it’ll go on the mirror.

Love my V1G2 but the mounts that come with it have there faults. The windshield mount can fall off without warning and the sun visor mount is fine until you need to use the visor to block out the sun. The big supper cup mounts for Escort & Uniden detectors are the best and easiest to use. Just keep them clean and they will stay on your windshield until YOU want to take it off.

Take a look at Quad lock. There are various mounts that could be adapted for inside a car. I'm putting them on my bike for the phone and V1. I've tested the phone and it's rock solid on the mount.

I've used the Ram mount magnetic mount for RDs. Never had issues caused from the magnet. Wasn't a fan of using magnets in the end though.

speaking of quick and easy change, has anyone had any thoughts on magnetising the power supply?

ive ordered 3 pairs of these, i reckon solder it as close to the rj11 connector so when you snap in your V1 into position the power snaps in aswell!

am i crazy or is this genius? its pretty much same idea as the mag safe chargers on a mac computer

Could be cool! Not sure worth the effort but I’ll let you guinea pig!

the Mag RD mount is a good idea because you can fine tune the position of the RD to the RVM and/or windshield...the quick disconnect is just a bonus IMO
