In 3 years have had both the R1 and R3 Uniden detectors. Both have lost the sound completely. Either through the speaker or thru the headphone jack. Though they have been great out in west texas as far as Range and sensitivity, I WILL NO LONGER BE RECOMMENDING UNIDEN DETECTORS to my friends. (Unfortunatly I had "sold" 3 units by recommendation) I will go back to Escort or maybe even try out the Valentine. My buddy lost an Escort off his motorcycle at speed and though it cracked the rear shield, it works perfectly. Uniden's have dubious build quality! BEWARE!!

Would like to hear from anyone with a similar experience. Pretty sure a cant be the only one.

Thanks and good day to all.

Welcome! Sorry to hear about the issues with your detectors. Maybe try a speaker replacement before giving up on them. Here’s a DIY guide used by other members.

Yep, mine went bad too, I got it replaced by Uniden, I think it was $80. Now I only run at 4 or 5.

Welcome to the forum. West Texas (Lubbock) is my area. This isn't a personal attack. Please don't take it way. You're very first post is a straight out attack on Uniden saying you'll never never recommend Uniden to your friends. It looks like you've had plenty of experience with the R1/R3. I have owned a R1, two R3s, and a R7. My very first purchase was a R3 and I experienced some screen burn in. I passed on the $80ish repair. I changed from blue screen to red screen. I sold that R3 and my R1. I currently own a new V1.2, R7, R3, and a Max360c. There is a Uniden section where various members have posted various issues with the Uniden models! Some posts offer solutions and cost of repair. It would be a good place to start instead of coming on to the forum blazing guns towards Uniden. I baby the hell out of all my detectors! They come down when not in use and go into a case! It's unfortunate that you've had issues, because the R series has awesome range!

I had the same issue with my R3. Happened 2 weeks ago. Well out of warranty as it was purchased at launch. Sent it in a paid the $81 or whatever it was. Got it back and it works like new. It sucks that my speaker went out but its all fixed now. I will run at a lower volume from now on.

Welcome @Vontron
I have used a R1 for 3 years with no issues and have jumped over to the new Valentine to try out
