Will my new v1 Gen. 2 be able to detect red light and speed camera low powered k band radar before it’s too late?

No, but you could use JBV1 or Waze for the GPS camera alerts since they are all stationary.

I could be wrong but I didn’t think V1Driver had GPS camera alerts, even if it doesn’t you can just run Waze and get the alerts. Maybe a more experienced V1driver user can chime in though.

This is only feature I miss about my escort redline ex that I returned, because I had access to escort live. But I think I made the right decision on keeping the new valentine.

There's no need for detection of stationary, fixed location cameras of any kind since GPS does a much better job of this. It's the same reason why there are redlight camera databases rather than "Redlight Camera Detectors".

Hopefully V1 Driver allows you to pin speed cams to a map, otherwise JBV1 certainly does.

In addition, Illinois requires all speed cams and redlight cams to be marked in advance and Chicago even publishes all speed cam locations here:

It's cool to detect speed cameras but it's somewhat gimmicky when there are better tools for the job, at least in Illinois.

I somewhat disagree... In my local town, they don't run the fixed speed cams 24/7 - Based on school-zone hour rules.
So it's nice to know when you can continue down the completely barren country 2 lane at your current speed instead of contributing to global warming and braking to crawl to a stupid 20mph in front of a completely empty school...
(My R3 gives me peace of mind to whether the cams are making money or not).

Maybe there’s just some word choice conflicts going on, but an app doesn’t detect anything. It only controls or interacts with the detector. V1Driver itself does not provide a camera database.

After not selling a detector for almost a year you would think the V1G2 as good as it is would have MRCD-MRCT detection. As good as this $500 detector is this is a major weakness. Here in NJ we do not have speed or red light cams but the MRCD is starting to show up in construction zones and on certain roads in commercial areas. I have gone thru them and my speed was shown on the big display but the V1G2 was silent. Valintine will have to address this weakness. I will not use the V1G2 in NY City or NY State.

Not saying it isn’t MRCD/T but you sure they weren’t some of the simple “your speed is “ signs that run on K band ? Most radar detectors filter those out. There’s variance even between what my r3 vs my r7 catches when it comes to those. It could be that it’s not that V1G2 didn’t catch it, it just filtered it out.
Also were you in L, little l, or A?

There are a few threads on radar detectors not picking up speed signs. The ones you saw where not MRCD/CT. MRCD/CT are unique in the way they look such as NYC speed cameras with low profile patch antennas and the mobile units with the patch antenna and a camera setup for photos. They do not display speeds

What’s that, now?
I think he's trying to say the V1G2 will not alert you to redlight and speed cameras out of the box, but you can get that functionality with an app.

Agree. That’s how I’m Interpreting it as well.

I guess that makes sense. The question was about V1G2 MRCT detection, which of course no app can add.

It could be I didn't get anything on the V1G2 , but I know this. Go over to Staten Island in the last 6 to 10 mounts they have put up at least 50 speed cames. You have to run the V1G2 in A mode to get a reading, but you will also get every door opener and blind spot car system setting it off every 2 minutes. The detector is useless this way.

Yes you run WAZE and you will get all of the stationary speed & red light cam locations but it should see the MRCD MRCT signal it can't go down to the lower part of K band. My Uniden R3 & R7 work just fine at seeing MRCD & T and you get speed red light cam locations also.
