Where are all the formal announcements and news about the ban starting next month? Can’t seem to find much...

When they banned laser jammers they were vocal about it about 3 month before the start date I believe, however they seem to be quite about this...

1 are they trying to stealthily implement it and catch those with (unstealth) RDs off guard the 1st day it comes in effect and hello $3.2k revenue.

2 or did they run into issues again? (Here’s hoping lol)

Are sales affected? Can you still buy/own/sell but not use in a vehicle sorta thing?

Still legal to buy/own.

When the 'use' ban went through they said they were lobbying to eventually ban sales etc

Only a matter of time I guess until it progresses to that stage. Seems to be the usual way the Gov go about it.

Nothing yet from Minister Roberts ;

I guess just beacuse its now been proclaimed, it could take longer than 12 Oct for WAPOL to sort out the logistics behind it.

Perhaps they're busy trying to order new Spectre Elites :)

There were rumors that Spectre was going away since the owner of Stealth Microsystems was calling it quits. FWIW, the Spectres are no longer available on the Stalker Radar website.

Welcome to the gang guys...

Says it's only if fitted to a vehicle.
In protest, couldn't everyone with a detectable RD in W.A, just run it off a free standing car battery, and sit it in the front yard to false the area of any copper passing? That would be funny. RDD's going off all over the place, and lots of time and resources wasted haha!

Here we go;

Penalty now the same as jammers ($1200 and 7 demerits)
How are they going to find them (Radar Detectors)?

There'll be some zealousness for a few weeks. It was reported in 1991--when Radar Detectors were banned in QLD--that an officer gave a ticket to a woman who had a garage door opener on the sunvisor of her car.

Without totally effective Radar Detector Detectors, how would these devices (Radar Detectors) be identified and located? Dark (legal) window tint and the proliferation of various devices that approximate the size and shape of Radar Detectors eliminate the visual-detection technique.

Perhaps the magnitude of the fines and the demerit points number is expected to "put the frighteners" on ECM hobbyists?

What’s the bet, sometime in the future they will try (again) to ban revenue camera reporting apps like Waze or make new fines for people reporting their revenue cam locations...

Time to retire the gen1 and relocate the gen 2 in a more stealth location me thinks... and grab another stealth RD before they ban the sales too...

Definitely difficult, as it seems Stealth Micro Systems (maker of the Spectre RDD has shut up shop)

Take a look at the last picture in this post ;

They had at least one Spectre RDD in 2013, but this was in one of the new 'Traffic Enforcement Group Concept Car' VE Commodores, so may have been a one off or a test sample.

I've never seen it mentioned in the WA Govt Gazette, as of course, RD's were never illegal in WA

Here's how the PR Machine will frighten the populace.

They'll take their one (1) and only Spectre RDD and park with it on the side of a major thoroughfare. After an hour or so, they'll "nab" some dope with a Cobra or Whistler.

The TV News will have a high-ranking LEO trumpeting the new Radar Detector Detectors (plural) now in use to catch lawbreakers.

Keep in mind: Police (anywhere) are not obliged to tell the truth.

'We have fitted ALL Highway Patrol Task Force vehicles with these Radar Detector Detectors that can detect ALL Radar Detectors from more than a kilometer away. Already hundreds of motorists have been caught by our RDDs and fined. Their supposedly undetectable devices have been confiscated. If you use a Radar Detector, you WILL be caught. The fine is $1,200 and 7 demerit points. We will not tolerate habitual speedsters trying to outwit us'.

When did the lying commence in that paragraph? After the first inverted comma.

Top tip for the V1G1 - don't run it in 'A' all bogeys factory mode, run it in custom sweeps 'C' mode with X band off.

For whatever reason I've yet to fully understand (maybe X band off, but that has the only LNA?), 'C' mode cuts the detectability of my V1G1 3.8945 down to about 10 metres to the rear when its installed in the car. Confirmed both with a Spectre III and IV.

Reset it to factory'A', and the detectability increases dramatically.

Its a good thing that the opposition managed to get them to remove the overly broad initial act, and specifically address radar detectors so, at the moment, they can't ban Waze or GPS warning devices.

A nice example below from yesterday. I had 800m confirmed warning from JBV1/Waze and the first and 500m confirmed warning from JBV1/Waze on the second, plus two friendly headlight flashers on the first ;

TraffiStar S350 in back of white ute/pickup in the day on left verge capturing both directions, and poliscan on a tripod hidden behind the red mail box on the left verge at night capturing both directions.

No one on the night run coming the other way would have seen it to flash me, as the ute was parked off road behind trees, and the poliscan tripod was setup behind an AusPost mailbox ;
