Hi all,

Having received 2 speeding tickets within 6 months (onLy other one was 7 years ago!), it dawned on me that I needed to look into a detector to keep me on alert.

There is so much info out there and I’m considering the r7 and pro m, escort, so many options !

If you could kind suggest one or two that I could further research, i would greatly appreciate your guidance.

1. What kind of vehicle you have and do you want a remote or a windshield mount? 2007 Toyota Yaris (speed demon :)). Windshield mount is fine
2. What's your budget? $500
3. Where you live ( address not needed of course) and what states , country or areas you primarily drive? ( this is essential) big city Dallas
4. How you drive? Quick, maybe 5-15 over depending on speed limit. Not aggressive, but definitely not hanging in the slow lane.

5. What your daily drive is like (short trips? long trips? city? highway?) we ask this because of falsing issues that exist in many areas or cities. Mostly highway on work day. Weekends mostly city
6. How long you have been using countermeasures, if at all? Never !
7. Are there curves, hills, obstructions or is the area flat as a pancake. Fairly flat here in Texas
8. Are there Redlight cams/speed cams in your area and do you need / prefer a GPS enabled unit? Would prefer GPS , but not mandatory
9. Thanks to ahl: "Are you willing/do you want to use your phone to pair with the RD?" and "What kind of device do you own (iOS/Android)". There is Escort LIVE and droid only YaV1 for the V1 apps one can use to adjust their RD. There is also V1 Driver in the ios APP Store for V1 users who wish to use an Apple device. ** Note that many of these apps allow you to use the APP (either droid or Apple) to readjust your settings for the V1. Escort Live allows you to do this as well on Escort products that are LIVE compatible. I don’t use a lot of smart features, no need for phone apps
10. Do you face MRCD and/or MRCT in your area?

Thanks in advance !!

Welcome and buckle up! I would go with an R7 since your Yaris seems to have a need for speed all of the sudden. Not sure when Radenso will release Theia.

Spend some time reading the forums watch video's and find the detector that seems to match your driving style/terrain. There is no "one size fits all approach" Lots of good info here and knowledgeable folks here.

No reason in over spending if you don't need to.

Like I said, read, find a couple you may like the sound of that fits your budget, etc and go from there.

I was looking into the theia as well... judging by the other products , I wonder what the price point will be. Wifey is already arguing about the price of the r7 :p

Like many other things, a few more dollars, a few more features. Next thing you know, you’re at twice you’re intended budget.

Oh I see you played this game before! I would suggest the ask for forgiveness route instead of getting preapproval. Works better.

Welcome to RDF! I would look at the Uniden R3, R7, or Radenso Pro M. There is a lot of information here about all three. I would read up on those and if you have any further questions, just ask. I’ve used the R3 and currently the R7. Really like both of them. The Pro M is said to be quieter when it comes to false alerts, but the R3/R7 will have better sensitivity & range. All three are winners, so it really comes down to what is most important to you.

Either get a refurb R7 off eBay for $399 (what I did) or a Pro M. Both within your budget. It I had to do it again, I’d probably sacrifice a little range and the arrows for a quieter detector, which would be the Pro M.

Thanks to you all for your input.
Do we know what the range is on the r7? Are we taking about 1/2 mike or 5 mile?
Seems like Pro M is sold out/backordered in a lot of places.
R7 is around 450 on amazon

Check out the real world test results on the Vortex Radar YouTube channel.
The R7 has obscene range, multi mile on highways in best case scenarios. Most people here tune their K band sensitivity down to 30-50% in town

The R7 has insane range, but at the expense of being more prone to K band falsing than some others, so you really have to make a decision based on range vs chattiness, and whether the arrows are important to you.

I can deal with the K band falses as they’re fairly obvious and the quiet ride option on the R7 helps, as the arrows and the range for seeking out Ka band are worth it to me. The falsing is also better with the newest firmware, and when auto lockouts finally come it’ll make it a less interactive detector to use (but don’t bank on those being available anytime soon).
