This is a great news! I had planned on getting Theia ordered to the border, as that's the cheaper option for many things versus buying in Canada (even factoring in exchange, etc), but as you know as of right now crossing isn't an option. Although, who knows that might change between now and the latest release date of Dec 31, 2020. :) Plus in the big picture, even if I have to buy it here, an extra $100-150 CAD isn't the end of the world on what will be a $1300-1500 CAD Taxes incl RD.
Yeah, the duties and import fees... someone has to pay them when they are imported into the country from tropical Cincinnati.

To make math easy and put things into perspective, here's a quick breakout. I used 1000.00 USD flat. This is where you read too much into me using 1K and chastise me that THIS MUST BE THE PRICE. /s

To legally import items into ANY country is expensive. I'm not saying this example below is the Holy Grail but it does a great job of breaking down all that ya get hosed on.

So at a theoretical retail price of one thousand dollars even, Canadians would face a retail price of CAD$1,760.26, plus tax, barring additional markup? Yikes. ~USD$280 of that is purely taxes. I guess if you live near the border you could drive across, buy it at retail, and then drive it back without declaring anything and save a few hundred.

Thankfully most of those fees aren't usually experienced in AB (PST only). If Canada Post/USPS (typically no brokerage fee) is used over FedEx or UPS I would expect to pay $80-$150 in AB, if ordering online from the US based on past experience.
FedEx is the worst for shipping to Canada imo as a Canadian, always seem to get hosed a month later with fees.
Anyways I hope it's not coming in at $1800 CAD 😩

Well that's a scary window into reality, and it's sadly accurate if one of the major courier companies is used.
When possible I use the USPS instead which hands off to Canada Post at the border and doesn't charge the duty or clearance fees that Fedex or UPS do. Mind you, this was the case for imported items valued at just a few hundred dollars. An item valued at over a thousand may be treated differently, I don't know for sure.

Way back I remember Radenso asking if we'd pay $1000 for something that didn't false. Unsure if that was stating up to $1000 or minimum $1000. This was before Theia was announced. I now presume this is what they were thinking about in the long run.

What do you think funds all that great free healthcare people rave about so much and other stuff in that country? When it’s al said and done, not everything on the other side of a fence is always as nice as you think it might be. Just saying...

What if you imported them as 'parts' and had a Canadian retailer 'assemble' them.

I'm sure @Jdem would be happy to sacrifice his living room for the cause.

If you have designed Theia in USA, and can get enough of it manufactured/assembled in USA, electronics can qualify as duty exempt under NAFTA/USMCA agreements. Like items made out of USA cotton.
GST/PST will be paid at a retailer or the border regardless. PST(provincial) many times is not charged on over border mail shipments as Canada Border Services Agency is only interested in the federal GST.
If your province has an arrangement with the border feds to collect PST then ship everything to @Heywood in Alberta as they have no PST. He can then forward to you as cheap as possible, right after a test drive. Just sayin.:p:roflolmao:
That whole scheme might save close to $200?

IF the border ever opens back up to "non-essential people" , I'll just do a day-trip drive down to see Mindy & Jon and get them to autograph the Theia I'd buying in person. :)

For those of us that live close to the US, we are well aware of how Canadian Border Services can have a field day and really hammer costs to packages that they get their hands on. Some of us have ways to ah...lets just say, get around most of that sillyness...for me the border is 1/2 hour away...

As of July 1st, the new NAFTA agreement means for Canadians:
CHEAPER SHIPPING

Online cross-border shipments to Canada worth less than $150 will no longer be subject to duties. Canadians buying and shipping items from the U.S. and Mexico will pay less in taxes and duties. This may adversely affect Canadian retailers.

Please ship my Theia in 10 seperate shipments all priced under $150.
Thank you. :bravo:

Mindy, does Radenso's various franchise agreements prevent Canadians from purchasing directly from your website? If it is possible and shipping is done via USPS, then folks in B.C. and Alberta aren't charged customs duty or PST, only GST. I'm basing this on personal experience having purchased Escorts, V1's and Net Radar directly from the U.S.
(Scary how much I've spent over the years. Oh well...)

Hey, Theia is modular right? Just include assembly instructions and a YouTube video and us Canucks will be golden.

Alternative plan:
Vortex becomes western depot for Canadian orders.
I visit Seattle when down south at the family farm.
Vortex keeps the packaging & emails receipt, mount Theia on windshield, drive home.
Or visit Best Buy in Bellingham or Spokane.
But no fun in that.

I don’t know if things have changed... and I certainly do not want to answer for Radenso.... but I did ask one time.

Automobility has/had the Canadian distribution rights for Radenso. If it was in Visions or any other place...... it had to come through Automobility first.

They handle a lot of products as a Canadian distributor.
Take a look. They’re huge.

Sometime it’s the deal you have to cut to get your product to the Canadian market.

It might have changed, and it still might, but that’s why you couldn’t just buy detectors directly from say Tom at BRD. Or Escort, or Radenso.

It wasn’t legalities alone.... some of it has to do with exclusive distribution rights for the Canadian territory.

That’s who supplies Visions. Or JB Powercenters. Or your local stereo shop. Automobility. If they have an account with Automobility.... you can buy your Escort or Radenso through them. They can order it.

Just like Harley-Davidson motorcycles in Canada. Trev Deely held the exclusive distribution rights in Canada.

Now with Theia coming out??? That’s only a question that Radenso can answer. Who knows.... maybe a separate agreement might be worked out.

I hate paying paying $29 for a sunvisor clip... then another $25.00 for shipping like we have to do with Alex.
