Radenso is also already in Best Buy Canada according to Jon.

Actually the 3 western provinces can order RD's directly since they're not illegal there. I've bought directly from Escort and Valentine.
From Manitoba eastward RD's are banned and it's true that manufacturers won't ship directly to those provinces.

KMPH.CA is a Radenso distributor so presumably they will handle Theia too. Alex confirmed that to me a few months ago unless something's changed.
I could buy accessories but not detectors directly from Escort.

You can’t even register for Escort stuff on line as they will not accept Canadian postal codes.

Radenso won’t sell directly to Canada because of the distribution agreements with Automobility.

I couldn’t buy from BRD.

I wonder how KMPH is selling Radenso products again? He was banned for a while.

My experiences buying RD's from the States are a few years old. I bought a NRO antenna from BRD about 3 years ago and a V1 6 years ago. KMPH.ca still lists Radenso on it's website, so as far as I can tell they're still a licenced distributor.

Nothing prohibits the importation of radar detectors into any province, including those where they are prohibited for use in vehicles. Importation of anything to Canada is controlled Federally, by the Canada Customs. Their job is to enforce federal laws and collect applicable taxes and duties, and not to enforce Provincial Highway Traffic laws. Simply put, Canada Customs doesn't care if you're importing a radar detector. In fact, they're duty free, and only applicable HST is collected. I've discussed this point for decades with Valentine and Escort, but they'd rather just assume that "detectors are illegal" means they can't be legally imported.

Without totally highjacking this thread, in Ontario its actually not the use of a radar detector that's illegal. You can walk down the street with a detector hooked up to a 12v source, attach one to your boat, your plane, even your bicycle. The law prohibits a motor vehicle that contains a radar detector, meaning its technically illegal to lock a detector up in briefcase, and lock it away in your trunk...

Still, being Canadian, you can’t order any of the radar detectors directly.
You’ll need a drop box, border PO box, or friends.
Hey there! So we have been kicking around a few different ideas in regards to launching to Canada. A metric shit ton of red tape and logistics are involved. Also, a lot of old skool people that struggle with interwebz as well in that mix.

That being said, Theia launch will look different across the globe as there are no 2 countries that are the same.

Rest assured, the last thing we want is for peeps to feel like "every other country outside the US is getting Effed Over." I'm confident that people will still feel that way.... somehow.

Theia will be available in Canada.

All provinces? Dunno.
Same day as the US gets it? Dunno.
Same whizbits and doonerdads? Probably.
Will HST and duty suck? Uh huh.
Does the CDN exchange rate suck? Yes indeed.

Bestbuy.ca, Visions.ca, KMPH and a few dozen BC,AB,SK brick and mortar shops carry us currently so it would be logical that those spots will carry/have access to order Theia when that time arrives.

Hope this clarifies and dispels any incorrect notions. :D

Thanks Mindy. Us Canadians were getting worried that we'ď have to tunnel under our closed border and risk prison time to get our speeding hands on Theia. Which we would have done.

Maybe someone could run bootlegs across the border to sell, eh?

This is a great news! I had planned on getting Theia ordered to the border, as that's the cheaper option for many things versus buying in Canada (even factoring in exchange, etc), but as you know as of right now crossing isn't an option. Although, who knows that might change between now and the latest release date of Dec 31, 2020. :) Plus in the big picture, even if I have to buy it here, an extra $100-150 CAD isn't the end of the world on what will be a $1300-1500 CAD Taxes incl RD.

Hopefully the Canadian price is fair considering the exchange rate and those vendors don't mark it up too high, otherwise it'll just be cheaper to import it and deal with the duty.
