Planning a trip through Virginia

If I read the correct settings for the Escort iX... you have :

• Ka Band Narrow 4: 35.400 – 35.600 GHz.
• Ka Band Narrow 3: 34.600 – 34.800 GHz.
• Ka Band Narrow 2: 34.200 – 34.400 GHz.
• Ka Band Narrow 1: 33.660 – 33.900 GHz.

I would run 1,3,4.... No sure if anyone has seen in their travels segment 2 for where you are going. Safe bet, run all 4.

Depending on when you get back into Va, Southern region, maybe hookup and test them LJs you have.

If you have what you pulled on your unit as you posted,

I would leave K as Normal full on

For Ka ...

Here is a screen shot from the iX Ci manual. Would turning off Kn1, Kn3, Kn7, Kn9, Kn10 be advisable for NY, NJ, PA (as well as DE, MD, VA, NC, SC), all other Ka on?

The times in recent history that I traveled on I95 thru Virginia, traffic was so dense that you could not even drive at the speed limit let alone have to worry about counter-measures, etc.

My son used to attend summer camp at VIR (near Danville) and I have driven all over that part of the state and down into NC. We'd travel for ages without seeing any sort of LEO/enforcement. We'd see a little action on Rt 29 and certainly some action on I81. You just need to pay extra attention when moving thru these small towns, like anywhere else in the USA.

Best time to travel I-95 to minimize traffic is anytime Saturday morning thru Sunday noon, or around noon on the weekdays if the weekends don't work.
Traveling I-70/81 is much less traffic sensitive.

@Kennyc56 Don't take my word for it, but last time I checked, PA State Police only use K-band. An anomaly for sure, but except for National Parks (that do use Ka), there's no reason to add Ka segments, in fact you can disable Ka in PA, believe it or not.

I was adding the other 2 segments for Va. and just in case for NC. I've heard about Pa. just using K band, but I won't leave my driveway without being covered on Ka band!

Understood and agreed. When my "PA Profile" gets auto pushed to disable Ka as I enter PA I momentarily pucker.

Stay off of I-81. all it takes is one accident to mess up that highway. Every time I made that drive from Mississippi back to Maryland during the holidays it was always traffic on i-81.

Now for i-95, VSP is running ka band and PL3, from my recent encounters.

We arrived in South Carolina safely. Our trip took us from New Jersey through Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina, primarily on 95 south. I left detection on the entire trip although shortened the Auto JTK to the minimum setting starting in VA and continuing south.

Here is a log of the frequencies we saw. It is incomplete. At some point my son (who was writing entries down) took a nap and then got bored doing it. We had Ka Band narrow segments 7, 9 & 10 turned off. Pretty much all else was on.

I am assuming the vast majority of K band activity was other vehicles and road speed displays on the shoulder. We observed very few LEOs, and those we did see already had their lights on and were writing someone a ticket.

We were running Waze and Escort Live.

2. I prefer 81. DC traffic is awful and generally unpredictable.
3. Make sure you're running Waze
4. I know VSP is running RDDs, but I think they're primarily focused on trucks with radar detectors. Having your detector up high and a kill switch for power is very useful. Waze will find many police ahead of time for you in VA and simply killing the power to your RD will solve most of the problems.

I got to tell you guys, my wife and I had to take a trip to north of Charlottesville from Raleigh NC a while back. I read up about the speed traps (Emporia) and others etc. We took her car and did not bring my radar detector.
A few months later after the trip, we discovered her plate was expired and had been all year! Apparently we never got the renewal notice!
Man we lucked out bigtime.
