Theia FAQ’s with Jon

Interview with Radenso's DSP Engineer

Radenso Theia / Rai FAQ:

Q: When is it going to be released?
A: Sometime in 2020. Theia is still under development so even we don't have a exact date or time frame yet. If you would like to signup to our Theia mailing list, click this link: https://radenso.com/products/radenso-theia

Q: How much will the Radenso Theia be?
A: Since we are still developing Theia hardware we don't know the price at this time.

Q: What is the difference between Radenso Theia and Rai?
A: Radenso Theia is the next windshield police radar detector coming from Radenso. Rai (Radenso AI) is the artificial intelligence software platform that will be used in the Radenso Theia.

Q: What hardware can you tell us Theia will have?
A: 1.5 GHz quad core processor, Spartan 7 FPGA, 1GB DDR3 RAM, 8GB flash storage, GPS 10hz chip, dual horn radar antenna to provide arrows, OLED display, headphone jack, bluetooth, wifi, USB-C connection, metal case

Q: Will I be able to use a RJ11 jack with Theia?
A: Unfortunately no, to power Theia a USB-C connection is required. RJ11 is a old outdated cable and cannot handle the power that Radenso Theia will need. A RJ11 adapter will not be possible because of this.

Q: Will Radenso Theia be immune to radar detector detectors such as Spectre Elite?
A: Since Radenso Theia hardware is still in development we are not 100% certain yet but of course that is what we want.

Q: Will Radenso release a hidden / remote radar detector with the Rai platform?
A: Absolutely but it will be awhile since we first we need to develop and release Radenso Theia (windshield detector).

Q: Will Radenso Theia running a operating system?
A: Yes! Radenso Theia will be running a Linux OS and we will have a open API for developers.

Q: Will Radenso Theia detect laser? What about ALP integration?
A: Yes, Radenso Theia will detect laser. We would love to have ALP integration, that is still something we are working on.

Q: What range will Radenso Theia have?
A: We believe it will have the highest range of any windshield and hidden/remote radar detector on the market but we can't provide exact data yet as Theia is still in development.
Where were you when I needed my Scorpion Xp recalibrated😉😂, man did a local ham radio operator make that thing work EXCELLENT.

Watch today’s video. He talks about how they’re stacked, heat sinks, and how the aluminum case will act as a heat sink as well
Thanks, I missed it.

Exactly. Automotive environmental factors are known, and people have been making vehicle electronics for ages.
My dear friend, while these things have been "known" it does not mean every manufacturer bothers to design enough cooling to deal with it. I still see cases where dashboard cams overheat due to lack of tests and lack of cooling before release of particular design. Even in more ideal situations where you do not need to deal with high external heat, such as laptop design - I still see VAST majority of laptops with very poorly designed cooling systems, resulting in very easy overheating and throttling of those poor 6-core and 8-core Intel CPUs, which is not resolved even when changing thermal paste to a liquid metal kind. This is why I was curious about how Radenso handled it in detector and whether they did various testing for it.

I guess I would just be shocked if the level of obsessive attention to detail Radenso is showing did not extend to ensuring it works even in the extremes faced in vehicles.

Hey, I also believe that they will deliver a good product, I was just curious what exactly they did to handle the heat output ;-)

Given that Theia's final case design is still in progress (as I understand it), I was just wondering about any planned mount.

Assuming that it is suctioned cupped, I was hoping that it might be made with a large sticky surface so that it will be able to adhere to the fritted glass area like some of the newer mounts? This is of particular importance to those who hard wire and mount high or just behind the mirror where there are a lot of frits dotting the surface and where standard suction cup mounts just won't adhere. I can't recall if there was a discussion on this or not, but could not find one if there was.

Miss the end of week update videos . . .

@Min Diesel @Jon at Radenso one very big request from my side: please make a heavy duty mount!
If you need to test durability, my NYC city commute is the ultimate mount toughness test :D
I have gone through at least 5 Escort mounts, no joke. And the radar is always wiggling, hate that.

Can confirm, NYC is the best place to test the car equipment for vibrations and high amplitude jolts. All our local roads are just slightly better than

Hey Jon, is Theia far enough along in its development that you can say whether or not ALP integration will in fact be part of the package, and if so, what will that interface look like?
Truth is, I'm just dying to hear anything new about where your project is at.
Thanks.

We can’t answer that yet or talk about the interface just yet. Anything new we can talk about will be usually through a video we release. As long as you are subscribed to our content, you’ll know immediately

Will Theia survive 190-200 degree temps? It gets that hot in cars here in the desert.

I'm from New Zealand and wondering how you factor in overseas differences into your product. Do you test and have Theia learn the characteristics of radar and other interference that may be unique to other countries?

Good thing for us, there is actually nothing unique about radar enforcement equipment-wise in NZ. The Stalker Ka in patrol cars and Redflex speed-cameras also exist in the USA. So Theia would have been trained on these.

In one of Radenso's early videos Jon stated that Theia would be trained on every known radar emitter so that it would be internationally usable right out of the box.

Yeah, you crazy Americans and your attention to customer service; what's up with that? Jon really does seem to take this whole Rai/Theia project to a new level of obsession to detail and performance. I'm really looking forward to seeing what Theia can do when it's finally released and tested.

Damn it. I thought this was a new thread when I saw it but instead was bumped.... ugghhh lol

@razorb I’ll answer this for you in @Randy at Radenso style :

“subscribe to our email list for the latest on Theia including being the first to hear about pre order and release”- or something along those lines
