While AA is active, perhaps Waze can only be opened via AA.
This is the situation as well for Waze on iOS + Apple CarPlay. If you're using Waze for iOS with Apple CarPlay, Waze on your phone will not allow you to use it directly, and instead gives you a message that you must use it via the CarPlay screen. You can't use the phone app for it while also using it via CarPlay or Android Auto.

Another success story running JBV1 fullscreen on Android Auto here.

My headunit: Pioneer 4200NEX.
Phone: Nexus 6 rooted. (Old phone I had sitting around, wouldn't root my main phone because of security issues)

I have been trying to find a screen mirroring solution for my phone for a while. Tried Appradio Unchained app for Pioneer for a wireless mirroring solution, but couldn't get it to work. There is a version that works on unrooted phones ($29), so you can give that a try. This solution is a pure screen mirroring approach that only works on older Pioneer headunits and does not work with Android Auto (though the headunit supports AA).

On XDA Forums, found a version of AA Stream called AA Stream chuppito mod.
Loaded apk on my phone, selected an option to whitelist on AA in the AA Stream app.
Started car, Android Auto (latest version) loads and I can now select AA Stream as an option.
I can then open any app on my phone and view it, including JBV1.

Touch screen works, though it sometimes loses responsiveness.

Works while running vvaze on AA and JBV1 on AA Stream.
AA items like vvaze directions and Android Music titles show on JBV1 screen. But JBV1 popups don't show in native AA screens.
Music stops if I move between apps. But I can restart.
My radio works while in AA apps like vvaze but does not work when in JBV1.

JBV1 voice alerts do work while in AA vvaze.

I'm still figuring out how to run it all, but nice to have it all on my headunit.

Hope this helps someone.

I saw this "AA Stream" when I went searching for the other one. What is this "chuppito mod" you decided to go with?

Good job. This is something I might play with as well soon.

AA Stream is an app that you can only install on a 'rooted' Android phone. It allows you to run and mirror any Android app through Android Auto. Unfortunately the base version of AA Stream app is hard to get working.

AA Stream has a version that was modified to make it more likely to work with the current version of Android Auto. I found this version on the XDA Forums. Version is called "AA Stream chuppito mod".

I will be getting a new car next year with a head unit that supports Android Auto.
Has anyone tried these new adapters?

Looks awesome! I decided I was buying one just from watching the video, and then it ended with... IPhone :-(

However... They do sell it for Android too so I'm happy again!!!!

It's not cheap though.

Back to sad 😔 Android isn't supported for wireless, only weird. I'm not sure what the advantage would be for an Android user....

You just have to dig & poke around a bit.
The techs out there.

Very much appreciate the effort you put in looking for an alternate solution for me.

I have a factory AA/CP head that doesn't have WiFi so that won't work for me unfortunately.

Thanks again though.

Yeah, it also depends on whether the head unit will accept the wireless AA...most do not yet.
