Hello,
I think the front laser reception weakness on the r7 is overblown. This weekend i ran multiple runs and it picked up dragon shots from 2 different guns at the same time my ALPs alerted. (Tx wirh 2 Rx up front). Front lidar reception seemed to work well for me on that lidar.

My r7 is mounted high on the passenger side of my windshield, next to my dash cam.

We’re you testing with the ALP’s transmitting by chance? I’ve noticed sometimes that detectors will alert to the laser jammer instead of the gun. Perhaps that could be contributing?

ahh that could be what happened, i am open to that possibility. yes the ALPs were firing in unlimited mode. the reason i was impressed was bc the detection seemed simultaneous with the ALPs but that could be exactly why as well. ive since disabled laser but was impressed by that performance. ill test it again with the ALPs off.

Ah yeah. I’m curious if you’ll see the same performance with your ALP’s off or just receiving.

Congratulations! Now that you got the alert you can pull over and get your license out because you've already been tagged.

I don't even consider the laser feature on windshield mount RD's as a feature because its pretty much useless.

As rare as a unicorn a RD laser save is.
Regardless I've have several saves on different situations with the old 9500ix in the distant past before this nasty generation of lidar guns.
And one recently on my motorcycle with a R3
All genuine ticket guarantees saves without an alert. Stray signals from vehicles directly in from of me and long long distances played a big role in the older ones.
With a full size vehicle nowadays and improved techniques I agree you use a jammer or pay up upon signal reception.
Too bad the jammer market is so small or underground in many places. We could use the more affordable jammers a larger market would bring.

My R3 picks up Stalker laser at the same time as my ALPs. On a busy freeway, the R3/R7 laser detection comes useful because the beam spread/scatter from laser hitting cars in front and/or sides of you is extra early warning for you to hit the brakes and let someone else take the ticket. This happened to me twice within the last 20 minutes after 2 hours on the highway - the cars in front of me were getting hit with laser from pretty far away, which scattered onto my car, so I immediately slowed and moved to middle lane, and the cars in the fast lane kept going and were pulled over.

Nothing wrong with having a second detection device. Now if you are on an empty highway without laser protection, detection is fairly useless, as by the time you are alerted, your max speed has already been read. However, with this knowledge, you may be able to take a quick exit if you're lucky and lose them.
