I live in east phoenix and my commutes are mostly east phoenix valley freeways. Twice a year I drive to San Diego utilizing interstate 8. The three main police departments are Maricopa, Pinal county Sheriffs and DPS that I am concerned about. Does any know their MO, i.e. radar bands they use?

Why isn't VA on the laser jammer banned list?

So can I take from this that K band can be segmented between 24.125GHz and 24.150GHz?? I didn't think you can segment K band.

I am new to the RD world.
So because of those "Unicorns" is it still an official recommendation to turn the X band off in the R7? I live in CA and occasionally drive through western states.

No! K band guns are specced to be centered at either 24.150 GHz or 24.125 GHz, with a +/-100 MHz tolerance. So "to spec" K band can be anywhere from 24.025 GHz to 25.250 GHz (although the usable K band range for police radar in the US is technically limited to 24.050 - 25.250 GHz by the FCC).

It's a matter of risk vs reward. If you get a ton of falses and never seem to find a unicorn, and you find yourself annoyed and/or ignoring X alerts, then you might want to turn the sensitivity way down or all the way off.

If you don't get many falses, you could leave it on.

I'm in Indiana, which is also listed as a unicorn state. I've definitely encountered more than one officer running X band, it's not even that rare for me. My feel is that many counties in IN don't use X, but mine does. I almost never get X falses. All the mess is on K band for me. So it's an easy choice to leave it on.

You up northern part of Indiana? I normally leave X off unless real rural area. Or up north west IN. Am I at risk?

Probably not worth changing anything but just to note, in CA X is used on speed feedback signs. And it is used by security in private gated communities (ask me how I know).

Also, I am nearly certain that aircraft is forbidden per the CA Vehicle Code. I can try to look it up but I'm pretty sure I remember reading that. Measuring a vehicle's time to pass two points to calc their speed is not allowed in CA.
Sorry for bumping an old thread. I’ve been hit with X-band around Columbus about 3 years ago. Nothing since then.

I'm in St. Joe county and around here I'd leave it on. No X his recently, but pretty sure I had one back Feb/March before quarantine hit. Most of the falses are on K here, so there's very little downside to having X on.

Segment 6 (maybe even 7) is needed in LA.

The three main police departments are Maricopa, Pinal county Sheriffs and DPS
Maricopa County Sheriff: K
Pinal County Sheriff: Ka (35.5)
DPS/Highway Patrol: Ka (35.5 and 34.7); K is also becoming increasingly used.
