NH needs to be added to the VASCAR list, and I would bold NJ and OH in the X band list.

I split X Band into 2 parts: Frequent and Unicorn. Too hard to Bold NJ & OH in the middle of a string in Excel. Not tied to the Frequent tag, could just as easily be Common, or something else.

Nebraska uses vascar, or at least distance over time to judge your speed. This information was given to me by a former Otoe county Deputy.

I wouldn't go so far as to say "frequent", maybe "occasionally". Maybe someone from OH will chime in and let us know whether X band is "frequent" still.

NE is Nebraska. It's already in there.

Probably not worth changing anything but just to note, in CA X is used on speed feedback signs. And it is used by security in private gated communities (ask me how I know).

Also, I am nearly certain that aircraft is forbidden per the CA Vehicle Code. I can try to look it up but I'm pretty sure I remember reading that. Measuring a vehicle's time to pass two points to calc their speed is not allowed in CA.

I thought so too. I found this:

California, for example, forbids the use of timing devices over fixed distances, outlaws VASCAR, and forbids radar on some roads.

I mentioned it in the old thread, but I would honestly consider adding Segment 6 to Connecticut. I had a recent 34.852 in Orange, and my friend had a 34.877 in Branford just yesterday. Both confirmed LEO's. I've seen other Seg 6 readings out there while driving In the state too, but these two are 100% confirmed and I didn't want to report anything without confirmation. But I would highly consider adding it.

Thank you! Sad to see so much coverage in CT my state though! I did get a VASCAR ticket in the early 2000's but I don't know present VASCAR status in CT.

Nobody* in PA uses Ka-band, at least nobody that I've ever seen as long as I been here. Nor do they use LIDAR.

(*except some federal entities while on federal land, and they only use seg8)

About the CA aircraft thing... While it is true that they can't measure your speed by timing, the planes have cameras with integrated map databases. The camera can track the car and calculate it's speed based on the velocity of the aircraft. They can also pace you from the air.

California Airplane Speeding Tickets
The California Highway Patrol is currently making extensive use of airplanes to spot people speeding. The Nevada border is being watched for vehicles speeding from Los Angeles, CA to Las Vegas, NV, as well as certain parts of San Diego. If an airplane spots a speeder on the ground, a CHP officer is radioed and will issue you a speeding ticket. However, it is important to ask how your speed was measured.

The officer in the plan cannot measure your speed from the air, otherwise this may be against the speed trap law and getting a full dismissal is very likely. The officer on the ground needs to confirm the airplanes indication with secondary confirmation, such as a laser or radar.
Anyone else want to chime in?

Essentially a glorified stopwatch.

Cop marks two spots (let's call them "A" and "B"). Then he measures the space between A and B. He enters this into VASCAR and waits for somebody to come along. Once you pass "A" he starts it, and then once you pass "B" he stops it. It then determines how fast you were going based on how long it took you to get from A to B.

VASCAR (Visual Average Speed Computer And Recorder) is a type of device for calculating the speed of a moving vehicle.

thanks for that link. I remember seeing aircraft patrol signs many years ago in the SoCal eastern, mostly desert areas I see now how to reconcile that with the illegality of VASCAR or what I thought was issuing citations from aircraft
