beltronics 955 vs escort max360c

does escort max360c have same distance (sensitivity) as beltronics 955 ? looking for a max 360c or uniden r7 . uniden r7 has better distance than max360c but if max360c is the same distance as my 955 I would b happy w/ the 360c over the r7 due to its easier to use platform and features

I'll try to find some numbers for the Beltronics 955 to help give you an answer based on some data. I don't know that there will be too much testing data, so I'll try to find as much data as I can about the platform itself that the 955 uses and see what we can put together for reference.

From what I can tell, the Beltronics Vector 955 has the FCCID: QL4G7M4. This is a platform that was shared by Beltronics for many models.

This is an incomplete database I'm building of detector makes and models, to help me understand the platforms and relationships.

I am no expert, but I think the difference in the various devices was the software settings and features, while the horn I suspect remained the same across the platform. The most common device for these is likely the RX65, it is a well known platform from this product platform, if I say so myself.

In summary, I think any test data showing the QL4G7M4 platform such as the RX65, should be usable for the sake of raw signal sensitivity and max distance testing. I'll see what I can dig up for comparison.

I found a little data on the RX65 vs. the Passport Max (non-360). I'm not sure which one this test is using, and have asked @Heywood to see if he remembers.


Perhaps @Brainstorm69 can provide some thoughts too, as I see from his signature he owns both the S7 and M4 versions of the RX65.

If I had to give you my best guess based on looking around the forums, I'm pretty certain that you'll get similar range if not better on the Max 360c than your existing Beltronics Vector 955 offers, in addition to a plethora of other great features Escort has added to their detectors in the past 15+ years. They have really come a long ways with auto learning and auto lockout of stationary falses, IVT filtering to block out in-vehicle-technology such as blind spot monitoring, collision avoidance systems, and etc. It will feel like a whole new experience for you.

I checked with @Heywood about that test data, and he replied that the test was conducted using the S7 version of the RX65, not the M4 version. This means that the data isn't exactly apples to apples, as the S7 was a platform known to be more sensitive on Ka 34.7 than its M4 counterpart. I wish I had more test data on hand, but I haven't been able to find much on it yet.

Just my own opinion and experience, The Max platform (M5) and Max 360 and 360c platform (M6) are fairly good platforms for the driver around town and in populated areas. They aren't very good at Ka 35.5, especially when you're approaching off-axis such as around a bend in the road. Ka 35.5 is hard to detect by nature, and the M5 and M6 platforms aren't very strong at off-axis Ka 35.5. Otherwise, it's pretty decent; I think if you're coming from the Beltronics Vector 955, you'll really enjoy it.

I have a Bel V955 and a Pro GX65. Slightly more range with the GX65. Beltronics claims 8X the range of cheap imports(like Cobra) for the V955 and 10X the range for the V995/RX65/GX65. In the real world, both my V955 and GX65 are very close, both giving plenty of warning on Ka and K bands.

Try looking at this thread and compare the results for the RX65 to the Max 360. The RX65 should be comparable to your 955, and the Max 360 is pretty comparable to the Max 360C. Given your OP, you should be fine with the Max 360C if all you are looking for is detection distance equal to or better than your 955.

You'll really like the 360c if you're a plug and play type user as its loaded with cool features out of the box.
