Just published v1.8.1 to the Play Store.

This version doesn't bring much new though adds several minor improvements and fixes some bugs

Here are the main changes:
  • Added customizable map styles
Besides using default styles you can also create your own style (for example here or here) and use it with Highway Radar.
  • A button to quickly open Waze application
This may be useful for faster alerts reporting while driving. The button just opens Waze application with one tap. Unfortunately I can't put alerts myself or open reporting window directly since Waze doesn't provide such API.
  • Option to disable picture-in-picture mode
This is a switch in the app settings that works separately from the system setting. Just a convenience option for faster toggling automatic activation of PIP mode.
  • Added "display" settings category
General became too large so I moved all display-related options to a separate category
  • Fixed several bugs
    • On map display, with "group close alerts" the main alert in the cluster used to be chosen incorrectly (normally it should be same-directional alert)
    • The map scale was too close so sometimes alerts appeared outside the map
    • Fixed occasional weird layout and too tiny map icons when exiting the PIP mode

Very cool. Thanks. Definitely a clever touch to give direct access back to VVaze. I like that.

Do you have thoughts on open-sourcing this so others can make contributions?

I do have some thoughts about open-sourcing it in future and definitely if I stop being able to actively contribute to the project.
For now it is complicated (though possible) due to some restrictions in my employment contract regarding participation in open-sourced projects.

The newest configuration is terrific!

Data consumption question:

Let's assume Highway Radar consumes data at the rate of 1X per hour.

If I am running Highway Radar with VVaze in the background, am I consuming at 1X per hour or 2X per hour?

Thanks.

I'd say would be something between 1.1x and 1.3x

LOL. Thanks, I figured it wouldn't be a simple answer. (I need to pay attention to my data consumption with a 1GB monthly allocation.)

I'm REALLY liking the few changes/tweaks in this latest revision.

Compared to waze, this app is way better regarding data and battery consumption...

oh, another suggestion, be able to toggle (on screen) from 1 mile(in front) to 4 mile to 6 miles (for example)
In town you need closer alerts but on highway...

Hm... profiles might work.
Despite I try to keep the app "simple yet powerful" I think I'll add some quick access in-drive menu with profiles, maybe quick toggles for aircraft, weather radar in future...

I can confirm the app using less power maybe due to it being darker but I had a bad charger on the bike after riding through rain on my trip in June so it would only charge at a slower/lower amperage and even though I had Waze running in the background when I had this app in the fore ground I noticed my battery stayed at x percent longer then with Waze in the foreground! ;)
