Hi Everyone,

This thread is for a running history of firmware changes and outstanding issues only. I will be gathering data from the other threads and when validated issues arise I will add them to the changelog. The other beta testers will have veto power over what is considered a validated "firmware" issue as to avoid having one off and hardware issues listed here. Please keep your findings and general comments to other threads to help keep this thread as clean as possible. Thanks!

R7 Firmware Current Firmware: 135.142.115_db210105 (UI_Version.DSP_Version.GPS_Version_DATABASE Version)

R7 Latest Red Light Database: Update (10/06/2020) - WARNING – This update is NOT for Australia/New Zealand models.

R7 Manual

Update Information and Process

Outstanding Issues:
  • Scanning display / "Heart beat" appears as a different color than selected for the main display (ex: violet display shows red scanning display and heart beat).
  • Spectre immunity - Certain units are detectable by the Spectre Elite while others are stealth. Why the variance? Is it possible to have it be immune to older versions like the Spectre III?
  • When using filtering, sometimes the verbal direction alert will not play.
  • Auto display brightness errs on the side of being dim, especially with the detector mounted high.
  • Color banding through Arrow on main display.
Suggestions / Feature Requests:
  • Its confusing how to enable manual lockouts for MRCD. You have to enable lockouts for Ka (which includes MRCD). Please add MRCD text to the menu so users know it applies to MRCD as well.
  • Rear Balance setting separated to be user adjustable for Ka, K, and X individually.
  • Add "Auto Mode" selection of (ADVANCED, HWY, CITY) based on speed.
  • New main display mode that shows both front and rear signal strength.
  • Provide a new display option for those people choosing to mount the detector on its side. In areas such as NZ, we are getting more than double the K band detection range against mobile redflex when mounted vertically.
  • Can external speaker audio output be increased for motorcycle use?

Fixes (v135.142.115 – 2/25/2021)
1. Auto mute memory is added. “Auto mute memory” shows on the screen for 2sec when a signal is auto locked out and saved in the memory.
2. The name of K Block Filter(24.199 +-5MHz) is changed to “K Block1 Filter” and new options(Weak/Mute) are added (on/weak/mute/off):
  • On(default) – Block all signals within 24.199 +-5MHz
  • Weak – Block weak signals only
  • Mute - 'Blocked' icon is displayed
  • Off - Filter disabled
3. New K Block2 Filter(24.168 +-2MHz) is added with the options (On/weak/mute/off). The default is On.
4. K band reactivity delay (K band gun with Quick trigger mode) is improved.
5. Arrow Display feature is improved to avoid changing the Arrow direction too frequently.
6. Alert distance options for Speed Camera Alert are changed. You can see the Alert distance options below when you set Speed Camera Alert to ON in the Menu:
300m(1000ft), 600m(2000ft), 760m(2500ft), 900m(3000ft), Auto
7. The text “Bogey Tone” in the Menu is changed to “Ka Bogey Tone”.
8. Pass chime(one beep) is added to the POI alert. The R7 will announce a pass chime when the car passes the camera (POI) in the database.
Fixes (v133.141.113 – 10/13/2020)
  1. Quiet Ride – Added MRCD On/Off – (Default Off)
  2. Priority Alert – Ka/MRCD, MRCD/Ka, Strongest Signal – (Default MRCD/Ka)
  3. VPR Laser Gun Detection – Added Stalker XLR, DragonEye (Full size & Compact)
  4. BSM Filter Enhancement – K Band
  5. MRCD False Reduction
  6. Improved All Threat Display
  7. Added Auto Mute rear K band – (Default -Rear K Mute Off)
  8. Added “Heart Beat” to all standby displays
  9. Normalized volume for each of the alert tones
  10. Added Basic / Expert Menu Modes
  11. K Narrow/ Wide/ Extended – There is another new option “Extended” that detects signals below 24.050 (23.900 – 24.250GHz). This new option is to detect the radar guns operating with signals below 24.050GHz.
Fixes (v129.129.113 – 01/22/2020)
  1. Enhancing MRCD detection range
  2. Rear Antenna Sensitivity Attenuation
  3. Narrow down the frequency range of Mute Memory function - X Band: 25MHz-> 10MHz, K Band: 30MHz -> 10MHz, Ka Band : 100MHz- > 20MHz
  4. If the main alert is locked out, the secondary alert becomes the main alert so users can lockout this(second alert) one as well
  5. MRCD alert always has priority over other radar alerts (X,K,Ka) even when Ka priority is ON
  6. MRCD alert is not muted by Quiet ride
  7. Secondary alerts to be displayed as Arrow and Band color selected in the Menu
  8. Display Signal strength level in grey color for Mute Memory in Alert Display #2 mode
  9. Amber color looks red so adjust the color to Amber
  10. Add two more steps to Auto Mute volume level setting(0 - 7 levels)
  11. The voice announcement for radar or laser alert does not go off for the same voice within 30 seconds
  12. If Auto mute volume level set in Menu is higher than the current volume level, it alerts at the current volume level
  13. Adjusted Latch time for the secondary display in All Threat mode
  14. Alert "POI limit speed" and "radar" by turn if detected at the same time
  15. Overspeed alert per 1.5 seconds
  16. Press "Mute/Dim" key for 0.5 second at standby mode to enter DIM mode(current version 1 second)
  17. Shorten display change time to Standby mode to 1 second from 3 seconds when changing DIM and Detection mode
  18. Display "MUTE" when Mute is operational.
  19. Add "Heartbeat" icon at standby display like R1/R3 model

Fixes (v124.124.111 – 06/12/2019)
  1. Volume level change (increase) from current 0-6 to 0-8 level
  2. Arrow Voice bug fix (like arrow voice only or multiple arrow voices)
  3. When Speed camera (or Redlight) and radar alert are being detected at the same time, radar alert is displayed after speed (or redlight) camera alert – this is a bug fix current R7 version. Skips “radar alert” when detecting speed (or redlight camera) and radar alerts simultaneously.
  4. K Block bug fix (punch through when MRCD On)
  5. Power off by holding and pressing the key about 2 seconds

Fixes (v122.123.111 – 04/18/2019)
  1. GPS code error fix
  2. Ability to display negative Altitude
  3. Rear Horn sensitivity issue – Advanced Mode
  4. Battery save mode – GPS reported speed up to 6mph from 0mph (useful in poor GPS signal locations. Example: enclosed garage)
  5. Ka ghost issue
  6. Red light database updated 4/02/2019
  7. K Block Feature to improve BSM detection. Notch filter for 24.194 – 24.205GHz

Couldn't have said it better. Great compilation! These are the EXACT things that my R7 is doing. Hopefully Uniden can issue new firmware very soon to correct these issues!

And if you want a place to host the firmware versions, I have a Dropbox link already set up for the R1/R3 and DFR series. I would just need R7 FW 121 to put in there. Let me know and I'll post the link and you can drop it in the OP.

Can we add "Amber looks red" to the list? Petty yes, but the R3 had an Amber color that matched most of my dash and wasn't super bright at night but was visible during the day for my crappy eyes.

I agree, does look more on the Red side of things. I do "see" a change between Red and Amber, but more subtle than on the R3s I have.

I would like to add that I can add updates to the GPS database anywhere in the world. Therefore any issues with the US database I can already fix (e.g. add / remove cameras). I can also build into and/or exchange different GPS versions into/out of different firmware versions.

From my perspective regarding a future firmware update for the GPS. I would like to see: Combined Redlight and Speed camera alert; time based GPS variable speed alerts (e.g. for school zones).

This is also a good place to add that @meni and I are building a web based resource. We aim to provide a service where people will be able to mix and match different firmware and GPS options. These will then be built in the background and released to the user.

Arrow transition from front to back, at times, has been slow. This past weekend, in one case it took 10 seconds to switch after passing the LEO.
Did not see this on your list?

That's, in the real world entirely possible. For a long range detector that translates to high sensitivity. This means that the rear antenna of that patrol vehicle was likely reflecting still very strongly off something behind it which was ahead of you still.

The GPS lockouts was never patented in NZ. I would like this feature now!

please add an option to have the display flash (kind of like when Q ride is enabled) when the detector's volume is all the way down.

Possible issue with 124 firmware. I’m not sure if this is me or something I am doing or the firmware itself?

When I installed the new firmware I did a factory reset, the factory reset confirmed new firmware.

Now should this have deleted all the mute memory I had? I only had two K bands that were mute memorized that I know were speed signs. At certain frequencies, now I’m driving along and a new frequency pops up as mute memory. I delete it then two minutes later another mute memory shows up, then another and another. Total four mute memories on a daily commute of 20 minutes.

Now I know 100% that the mute memories showing up were not any of the frequencies I memorized in. I only did so to two different speed signs on my daily commute and that’s it!

Thoughts?
