Has anyone seen any speed enforcement on the express lanes yet? I have only driven on it a handful of times both ways. I can see wider areas where an officer might hangout but have not seen anything. I can just see them putting up speed cameras to help subsidize the massive cost of building that thing. I could also see them "timing" the cars as they get on and off then calculate an average moving speed, because they have cameras everywhere taking pictures of tags and windshield stickers.

Thanks

The 575/75 express lane is so small and narrow I don't think they could sit there and monitor it. With the barriers being so high I don't even see how they could get your speed other than being in the lane and that's almost impossible. The express lane going to 285 is pretty wide but I haven't seen anything yet, but I don't drive that way much anymore.

The 85N/S only cost them cameras /sensors since it was the HOV lane before. I think its a rip off having to pay to use a road that your taxes paid for but i moved to a place where my drive didnt involve the interstate.

Never seen any on 75. I don’t think they can enforce speed electronically in GA. Plus we are paying to be on it, give us a break.

I've been curious about this as well. Glad to know there doesn't seem to be any current automated enforcement, though I agree it seems like it would be unfortunately easy for them to add something in. Twice now I have seen GSP shooting Ka at the merge where 316 meets the express lane on 85 South, but I doubt they were there for the express lane specifically, likely just checking 85 traffic.

I drive the express on 85 two or more times a week. I can assure you if they are monitoring it electronically they are not sending out the tickets. I believe GA ruled speed cams illegal a while back as well but I would not take that as fact.

They are monitor electronically. They even have systems that detect number of people in the car.

Reminds me of the early days of the Harris County Toll Road. If your expressway is anything like that, it will be lightly patrolled but when it is it'll be GSP and probably multiple units. Waze should ferret them out.

As a few others have asked, at what location did you see this?

I have driven every Express Lane in metro Atlanta many times and have yet to see any speed monitoring or active enforcement (note I am not saying it didn't happen, I am saying in years of Express Lane driving I have yet to see it). Next in all my years of Express Lane driving on all the Lanes in Metro Atlanta, I have seen only about three places where there is even remotely enough room for a LEO to sit to use either Radar or Lidar so that would only leave moving which would be more of a "pacing" situation as both parties are traveling the same direction on mainly a single walled in lane. Space is at a premium in Atlanta and these Express Lanes were an after the fact thought and had to be shoehorned into the little space remaining with most of them requiring major reconstruction of the accompanying major Interstate which again leaves little road for LEOs to sit.

Lastly, I have seen only one GSP traveling on the Express Lane in the last three years. He was going the same way I was on the northbound I-75 Express Lane. I was catching up to him and when I showed down to match his speed to keep him the same amount of distance ahead of me, I was still doing 80 for the remainder of the drive to Cabela's while matching his speed.

Moderation (It's where I drink!)
Well I've averaged 100+ when I'm in em so I'm sure there's no current enforcement by camera, but yea they could absolutely add it, but it likely wouldn't be pointable if they do add it, it'd likely just be an administrative charge.

Hopefully because they're so narrow they'll keep enforcement to a minimum.

I live north atlanta, so this express lane hasn't been drivable for years i dont think lol

I dont remember the exact location but it was between 285 and 575. I was actually on the express lane doing my normal plus 20 and saw lots of red brake lights in front and slowed down to a reasonable speed and sure enough over the crest blue gsp car. If you notice there are several places where there are probably "emergency" zones where there is a stretch of road that bubbles out from the express lane, and that is where the gps was sitting.

I see you have the blackvue banner, any chance you have the footage?

So yesterday afternoon I did see GSP with an eighteen wheeler pulled over in the 75 NB express lanes just before the Roswell RD (SR120) exit. Are 18 wheelers allowed in the express lanes?

"Motorists with a registered, active Peach Pass (or a valid interoperable toll pass from Florida or North Carolina)can access the lanes. Vehicles with six or fewer wheels are allowed in the Express Lanes with a valid Peach Pass; tractor trailers are not allowed. Buses are allowed to use the Express Lanes with a transponder and Transit Buses like CCT, GCT, or MARTA may drive toll free."

Going Northbound would be multiple violations as the entrance lanes are as far left as one can get and 18 wheels are not allowed in the left most lanes of I-285 much less the express lane. Where you also going northbound? Almost impossible to see over the walls at Roswell Road even going Southbound on that section.

I have seen GSP multiple times during the day and night on the "Northwest Corridor Express Lanes" on the I-75 portion as well as the 575 part of it. I've been hit with laser and radar.
