Somewhere on the ticket does it say or explain how you can enter a plea by mail?

It's really up to you on what you'd like to do. I know it's a long drive.

You may be able to hire an attorney to represent you without you having to drive back up there. Might be more expensive than the ticket but your insurance hike might make it worth it .

A good lawyer will offer you a payment plan I imagine, helping spread the cost for their services out over time and ease the burden on your wallet. Yes, they may cost money, but it will be cheaper than an insurance hike for the next few years.

IANAL but as far as I know these are your options.

1. Show up and plead no contest in front of the judge with some sort of explanation or just humility in hopes of a reduction in points or fine.

2. Show up and plead not guilty and hope for a good plea bargain from the DA.

3. Hire a traffic lawyer so you don't have to show up and in hopes that he can do a better job at number 2 than you.

4. Plead no contest by mail and hope that for some reason they decide to reduce the points or fine.... Not likely.

Then there is other funny business that I don't really know much about like:

5. Pleading not guilty and keep moving the court date and when you moved it as far as you can show up and hope the officer doesn't show up.

6. Request a jury trial and hope that they dismiss your case due to the expense.

So pick your poison.

Here in my neck of WI it's all about the $$$. A Non-point plea with no reduction in $$$ usually works here. A decent D record goes a long way. Being out of state may help in that case. It would be nice if someone knew who the attorney(s) who have the inside track in the area are. How did this turn out by the way?
