Turns out Radar Direct, and all the other retailers have parallel imported the wrong models of EX for NZ. We should not be getting the "international" version

This is so new. When I imported my EX from the US i found i had to use a VPN to update it. As of the last Detector Tools update i no longer need to use a VPN.
My serial number begins with an 84*****. So mine is definitely a North American version.

So as of the latest update, what i believed was the wrong detector for this market, has now become the ideal candidate for this market.

You guys that bought International versions locally..... what do your serial numbers begin with??? If you're unhappy with you EX, and the serial number does not start with 84***, this might give you recourse to return it.

You know it's funny, a year or so ago i surmised that we never needed the "international version", and it had always been the wrong decision to bring the original Redline International here. We never needed strelka, mrcd or any of that fancy sh1t.

Fuuk man, who's running that turkey shoot over at Escort.... LoL

*UPDATE:
K-band segmentation on the 84**** version with update to 1.5 version firmware still has the same 4 segments and frequency range.
Don't misunderstand me, I still love my EX, I own a R1 & R3, but the EX is my daily driver, it's the little things, i like the software features, and how it feels in my hands... trivial stuff but enough to tip the scales for me.

Radar Direct are not advertising it as "International" .....

But throughout the body of text they refer to it as "international".....

To add some cream to your comments, when they started advertising the EX, they said this was a one for all model, i.e no special international version. Not great for a company to change their story!

I actually found that quite confusing when i was researching to buy my two radar detectors some sources say one for all then other places said NA and int version. Not very research friendly to newcomers

Funny, here in AU, both main resellers DGC and radars.com.au are not saying its International, but main importer/distributor Neltronics AU are still advertising as Intl ?

Good news for us, buy a cheaper US model and import to AU/NZ and save money

Yep, I remember Radar Direct in their early days with the VLT1-NZ saying "tuned for NZ", That will be $1680 thanks very much, they must have made some good dough back in the V1 heyday.

Yeah and I got it from asking Escort. There seems to be a good amount of confusion in terms of both features and serial numbers for Escort’s international detectors. This was true for both the Redline Pro A and now the Redline EX as well.

Hey Vortex, we're all good my friend.

The mere fact my US imported EX would only update via VPN, and now all of a sudden i don't need a VPN, is proof enough for me that Escort changed their mind.

And they had to release yet another version of Detector tools make the change. I guess the geo blocking was not an update-able part of the code, so they had to re-write it, hence the new version 3 weeks ago.

Both my redline ex units purchased from a local retailer (Repco nz) have serial numbers beginning with 84xxxxxxx
Work exactly as you describe in your post.

I think most of that stuff has been sorted out. Initially when Escort released the EX- there was some thinking or maybe hope is a better word that they had gone away from the different model for US and different model for the rest of the world (International). Anyway, long story short, the models being sold in NZ are the correct ones. They are not great at detecting redflex, but then most detectors are pretty useless at that.

R3's are extremely hit and miss on redflex, mostly miss.

FA going towards it opposite lane.
