Another group of states that are revenue hungry. Target the distracted people. Not the ones moving a wee it quicker than others. I'm more comfortable being around someone speeding than someone who is texting

From the damn article, 73% of the accidents on freeways do not include speeding as a contributing factor.

You can't make this stuff up...

Yup. What's the contributing factor of 73% of the accidents? 73% sounds much higher than 27%...

Dumbasses who just can't drive in general and (mostly young people) texting or messing around with their friends. When I was in high school it was pretty scary how lightly most of them took driving. As if it's a time to have fun and screw around while sometimes paying attention to the road when it's convenient.

Just drove from the Hard Rock Casino/Hotel in Sioux City, IA to Kansas City running about 90+ and only saw 2 police on the way back to KC (none on the way up). I guess I traveled at the right time.

I guess it's convenient that I'm leaving Missouri this weekend and not going to any of those other states.

I know somebody who says they drive with their phone in one hand and with their vape in the other. The scary part is that he isn't exactly the best driver even when he's paying attention.

One thing to remember is statistics are easily manipulated so you get the results you want. I'd like to see the information they used to get the statistics. I'll bet if someone was going 5 over and was involved in an accident it was included in their statistics. I sometimes wonder why there are so few deaths on the autobahns where people are doing 100+ constantly.

You are correct. The way NHTSA gathers statistics, that would be considered a "speed related" accident. The way speed limits are underposted, most people are going over the speed limit so most accidents can be officially deemed "speed related." How convenient!

Check out this article on the role of speeding in fatal accidents on thenewspaper.com.

Thank you for that article. The real number is 7% apparently. The governments are essentially in a "business" to make money off of various driving offenses to give them more money to waste. It is disgusting to me. It's like the most important thing to the governments is the amount of money they can make, not the well being of it's citizens. Then they lie to us on top of it.
