How is the stingers range as opposed to a redline? Is it actually better all around?

the problem i see with that is inet connectivity... Wouldn't really be a problem for you or I but... for some people who don't have tethering...

Yeah, people aren't going to fool with that. And we all do know how well EL works on Android. Can you imagine the problems if Escort put it on their RD.

Build an all band modem into it with sim slot :) wouldn't be ideal for some people, like you said, but a minimal data plan even through a retail provider isn't that expensive...

That's why I was saying make it an integrated device; doesn't have to run Escort live, rather have an app that manages everything RADAR, that is independent of the GPS and all other functions...

Furthermore, the device wouldn't have to come from escort. This is an idea that any manufacturer could pick up on if they did it right. In fact I'd sooner trust other manufacturers to properly execute it than escort...

The Stinger is definitely better in range than all of the current offerings, BUT at what cost is that range???

I'd tend to think that the real benefit of the Stinger is its anti-falsing benefits, BUT again at what cost??

Back ON topic though, here's a good post from LC of ER about the display of the 360:

Since you guys are already accustomed to running multiple detectors you can easily pick up both an M360 + Redline. Shut off a feature here, a feature there, a shutdown here'n'there and you're back to what you know and come to expect..... with additional benefits! Easy and cheap!

Good luck on having Verizon to activate a sim for you on it... Or verizon to activate anything for that matter... I had a hard time when mine was damaged because of it being in my pants pocket and it accidentally got washed... oops...

Kind of like running a Redline for long range off axis Ka detection only and, a V1 with YaV1 for the arrows. Pretty much the same thing. All good, except for the V1's interference potentially causing the Redline to miss a short Ka transmission. I go with the Redline and V1 combo in one car. I know the V1 might interfere with my Redline but, likely not the other way around. Sounds like the Max 360 might produce some interference of it's own. Right now, I think your Stinger is the only way to get that kind of Ka range, plus arrows, with no interference. I'm not aware of how fast the Stinger is but, seems to me the only downside is the price.

Very possible but not small. Think of something similar to the Passport iQ in dimensions only not as thick as the iQ. A patch antenna would mate perfectly with the iQ's display screen. Hello Escort!

And it would run in the cabin, as that is How 99% of users are running the Stinger anyway.....

Flat, looking similar to a GPS navigation screen. This may be the future of radar detectors, a move away from the oblong and toward the flat screen. With modern detectors capable of keeping track of so much information simultaneously it would seem like a perfect coupling. A flat patch type antenna for superior range and, a display large enough to show an increased amount of information.

Well, Verizon might be the worst of the possible choices. Audi has in the past offered both T-Mobile and AT&T options, and Chrysler (notoriously) connects their cars to hijackers via Sprint.

One of the above (or someone leasing their bandwidth) might be willing to sell a 1GB/mo plan for use in a radar detector, and you might be able to get a decent rate if they could sell it in sufficient bulk. Still, though, even if you could get it for $7 or thereabouts, would the added utility really justify the extra monthly bill?

Exactly.

If someone isn't already working on this I would be surprised. I'd say Stinger has a leg up with most of the engineering done in the VIP and a self contained unit that eliminates the control box / cabling and individual components would significantly reduce cost. The biggest challenge would be heat dissipation from cramming all that into one box but it's very possible. Our smartphones can do it and they transmit as well as receive.

So, I was looking on Escort's facebook page and saw 2 different images for the Max360. Are there 2 different versions of the Max360 coming out or am I missing something?

Also, according to escort, its going to have an LNA, look at the first comment.

They just made a composite image of old and new.

Actually, that composite image doesn't look half bad. Replace the digital bar graph with a bogey counter and they might have something there.

You know the 360 looks pretty good from the front view. But, if you take an overview gaze you realize just how damn big this thing is.

Size of MAX360 compared to MAX1 => 0.06" Higher x 0.4" Wider x 0.13" Longer

Don't yet know the weight difference.

Yeah, I noticed that in the specs portion of Escort's Max 360 page, the size is not listed under the heading "Size," but "Compact Size." I guess they feel the need to try to emphasize that it's really not that big. I suppose if you don't mind having a big box of Kleenex on your dash...:p

Since this was the rumor thread which is now a discussion thread, I have 1 on topic n00b question and 1 tangential question for you guys.

I've searched but probably not well enough.

I still don't really know what LNA (low noise amplifer) is or why it matters. I *thought* it was somehow related to either Spectre immunity or maybe Cobra falses but I really have no idea why everyone is asking about it on the Max 360 or why it kinda seems to be a big deal?

Slightly off topic and probably discussed to death...
Since there are sooooo many X band falses that even novice CM users turn it off, it seems to me that a radar company would do well to make a new breed of measurement device that works on old X. Why hasn't this happened? Or for that matter use a radar band that isn't X, K, or Ka? I'm assuming they're not using X because it must be vastly inferior to K and Ka (range?) AND because every RD can pick it up so easily (and presumably the thinking is that, no, actually casual users won't turn it off). Thoughts?
