I have a 2010 370z and am looking to spend about $400. Because of an employee discount, I can buy the MAX for $380. I have someone in the area wanting to sell me his Valentine One (2012) for $300. There are others who suggest I get a new Whistler or others for less.

i drive in the city to work and especially on interstate 55 where I do speed. I live in Missouri (where they use a lot of Lidar) but in neighboring states it's radar.

if you were in my place with limited budget, what would you spend the $400 on?

forgive me if I am inappropriate.

Valentine 1 and then purchase V1Connection, where you can use YaV1 on your phone to quiet it down. For LIDAR, you'll want to get Laser Interceptor or AntiLaser Priority (though I'd wait to see if they continue with updates), but since you said you can't afford that right now, you can wait.

But MAKE SURE you run the serial number for your friends V1 on the valentine website www.valentine1.com to see what version it is. Just because it's a valentine doesn't mean it's a current version. If he did indeed get it in 2012 directly from V1 then it should be good. See if it says ESP under the volume knob.

I think you will be happy with either a Redline, V1, or possibly a Max (depends if you want lockouts).

Why is the MAX not a good buy?

It is a good detector, its just the subject of great debate here! It is going through "teething" issues as it is a brand new product and Escort is fine tuning the firmware.

It is a good detector, its just not the best in terms of range.

Check out some of the reviews in the Escort section.

V1+V1C/YAV1. 2012 should be 3.893 ask him what version it is. Best city/highway detector with a strong Laser sensor ability
