Hi, I just moved to Portland, Oregon recently for work.
I am wondering what band does Oregon use mostly often? I am thinking to get a radar detector in the next couple weeks because I need to drive 30 min to work daily on highway. What are some suggestion, I do prefer Escort for the brand name.

Welcome to the Forum
I lived in Oregon for 10 years, until this spring.

Portland has Red Light and Speed cameras, but OSP uses motorcycle deployed LIDAR on any of the interstates during rush-hour.
Milwaukie has a rather infamous Photo Van; along with somewhat aggressive enforcement along McLoughlin, as you are leaving Portland.

Be Aware (with the exception of metro areas) any late model OSP cruiser may be using X-band. The operators are quite skilled and seldom just "leave it running" (C/O)

Welcome. Based on what GOG said it sounds like you will need to be ready for it all.
For Radar:
- An STI-R Plus will give you the best detection, plus redlight/speed cameras (GPS), autolock and stealth but will be your most expensive option.
- A Redline will give you equal (some might argue better) range and detection for a lot less money and install headaches (since it is a windshield mount) but does not have GPS (camera database) BUT you can subscribe to Escort Live (many don't think escort live is what it needs to be yet though)
- Valentine 1 (equal to the Redline with same setup) and run a Free app called YaV1
- Escort Max (also windshield mount) gives you the built-in GPS but has a lot of mixed reviews here regarding its falses. It is updateable via usb though and should continue to improve over time.

Laser:
- you will need separate protection. Look into Laser Interceptor or a new product called the Anti-Laser. Lots to read on here.

Welcome. If you click on RDFGS up top, and then Oregon, you'll see what is used. ;)

Welcome! I've lived in Portland for 3 years and from my experience it's got the most sneaky and brutal cops.

^ This guy.

-Also Photo Van is often used on Marine Drive on the early mornings
-I84 will occasionally have a motocop lean on the cement barrier
-McLoughlin is a no play area, just don't speed there, at least until you know it very well
-Crown Point Hwy is hot recently
-Airport Way can be very hot on certain late nights
-Stark Street is very hot pretty much on any holiday/friday & saturday night
-Keep an eye out for Yellow plates in your rearview

Had more police encounters in Portland area then anywhere else combined. Taught me a lot.

Good luck, I had absolute blast driving while living in Oregon.

Welcome to the forum. RFDGS should list what is being used in Oregon.

I see. I am pretty new to radar. I have a friend bought a Escort 8500 X50 from BestBuy on Black Friday. I don't know how good is this unit? What do you think?

The 8500x50 is probably the best bang for the buck radar detector you can get. It has excellent Ka performance and a low price. If your looking for the best of the best performance, you'll want to get something more like the Redline. But if you can't drop more than $400 on a RD, I'd say the x50 is the best option.

Welcome to the forum from southern California! It is a good idea to pair an LJ with an RD....only a matter of time when a laser beam will focus on you.

Question, I just got the 8500 x50 today. It seems giving some false alert even there isn't cop around. I didn't change any setting at all. Does this acting normal?

If I want to test out my radar what are some good street or highway to test it in Portland area?

It probably is acting normal. You are more than likely picking up some falses from door openers. Are there any stores around you during these alerts?

Look up what radar bands are used in your area in the RDFGS. Then see what band your picking up on your RD. If your picking up signals that aren't listed for your town, there's a good chance it's a false. Of course it's not fool proof though, you could be the first one to see that band used there ;) but it's a starting guideline.

If you have the same alert every day in the same spot, then it's a false. You can use Escort Live to lock them out and stop your RD from alerting to them if you have lots of falses in your area.

This is my first radar detector, still in my process learning how to use it. You are right on your statement, the 8500 X50 does giving me the same signal K band at the same intersection that I always drive by before pass my house. There is traffic camera on both of the street, that might give the radar alert.

I will keep testing the 8500 and thank you for your advice.
