I am a new Redline 360 owner. I am in the Cleveland OH area. I am noticing that my Redline doesn't seem to go off when I pass some local PD and State Troopers, they are clearly shooting radar but the detector stays quiet. I know it works because when I pass stores or some digital signs, or sometimes seemingly randomly it will go off. But even today I passed two locals on the highway clearly shooting radar and nothing, passed right next to them even. Passed right next to a trooper shooting radar the other day and nothing either. I have been made aware of them sitting thanks to Waze and the Highway Radar app. K-Notch is not on, I am thinking about turning it on though, I am not sure what frequency OH uses. Honestly, I haven't used a detector since probably 2007. I used to always use the Cobras and never had issues then. What made me recently get one was because I was visiting my friend in OK and she has a Cobra Road Scout and it seemed to pick up radars from 1-2 miles or better. Browsing YouTube seems like people have been having success with the Redline 360c. I am just getting back into the radar detector game so excuse my ignorance with some things. Can anyone help, are my settings wrong, or should I just try and return it and get a Cobra? Thanks in advance.

Why do you believe that they are running radar? Are the pulling others over and/or you seeing they are holding a device in hand?

The reason I ask the above, if they are holding something, it could be Lidar and not Radar. Light vs Radar waves. Do you have video to help the question?

Also, how are you running the RL360c? State factory or changes to?

I’ll quote this saying I’ve heard before “it’s a radar detector, not a cop detector” how do you know for sure the cop had his radar on? I also own a RL360C and pass many cops and my detector doesn’t go off, because they don’t have their radar on. Make sure you go thru your settings and make sure you have Ka, K, Laser and (this is going to suck) X Band on because Ohio still unbelievably still uses it and definitely don’t trade your RL360C in for any Cobra “Friends don’t let friends drive with Cobras” you definitely need to make sure everything is working correctly though, sometimes you will get a dud brand new detector that has to go back for return or repair.

K notch is a filter to target Honda, Acura BSM systems from what I understand. It will will allow for K band punch through by police, but I think it lessens your K band sensitivity. If you aren't getting tons of false alerts when cars are pulling up next to you in traffic, don't turn it on.

As for knowing they were operating radar, it is not something one could know for certain. Laser, radar, or no radar on. That's why it is good to have the Triad of defense measures. Laser Jammers, Radar Detectors, and an app like Waze. I think the biggest way to not get a ticket though is to buy a car like a Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, Honda Fit. Around here, no one stops them....

The Escort detectors have great filtering so it will be more quiet. I saw a 1 star review of a guy complaining he didn't get false alerts down a road he knew had tons of k band. Ugh....

Just to add to that, Escort owns Cobra these days, so not all the Cobra RDs are complete waste. But then again, the Cobra Road Scout is to R360c what base Chevy Impala is to Caddy Blackwing, in GM/automotive lingo.

I guess I am really assuming. Last I used a radar detector was when I was in NJ (where I am originally from. Before you get on me Jersey I haven't lived there since 2007 things have probably changed) and it seemed like they always had it on, sitting driving you name it if they were around the detector was going off. So you could be right here in OH they may just not turn it on all that much.

At the time that I saw the ones that I did in my original post, there was no one else pulled over. I did not see any of them holding a device, although I do know an interstate where they do typically hold them, I live on the other side of the city so I do not frequent that interstate much.

Since my original post, I have passed a few more locals and troopers, moving and stationary, and it was still quiet. But when I entered a school zone where I already knew a sheriff sits it definitely went off, though I did notice it took a second for it to go off, he would have had me before my detector let me know, which I do see that people who have the RL360c say, there is a delay sometimes when hit with a radar.

I am running it factory at the moment, being that I am just getting back into the detector swing of things.

“Friends don’t let friends drive with Cobras” 😂 I like that! I am going to make sure, I think I do have X Band on also, I am going to double-check though.

I am glad to know that that I am not the only one that passes them and the RL360c doesn't go off. Makes me feel like I am doing something right. I do like it, still getting used to it.

Maybe you can have get together with another on the RDFer here to check on that RL360c you have. Many areas could be trained in the art of Radar and get your perp. Va is random, as either they run 24/7. some just turn on when others are around...and then off, and then you have the snipers will I/O each car /mini group.

The RL360c can be a snail to alerting, if they are quick to the trigger. Also note, if they are perpendicular to you, if can be really hard to get an early hit, and them not able to get your speed as well.

I will keep K notch off then, not really going off so much around other cars.

I am starting to use the Triad of defense measures. I would like to get some laser jammers, though I can't afford that just yet. Though I am using Waze a lot more, I would normally use Google Maps, but now driving around locally it is Waze, going on a road trip I will probably use Google Maps. I drive a Silverado 1500 they don't seem to target me so much although I do have a heavy foot. I also within the past year I got one of those tickets in the mail because the cop that was sitting was using MRCD. First time getting one of those other than an EZ-Pass run or Toll By Plate.

Thank you for that tidbit of info, good to know! I hear VA is a SOB when it comes to detectors, always have been. I know it used to say on there Welcome to VA sign something to the extent of no radar detectors (grandparents used to live in Chesapeake) idk how they are now but be safe out there. Thanks for the help.

They are about the same... just add Laser now to the mix, and the surrounding areas. LJ are now needed around this area now.

Do you keep yours hidden so they can't notice the mount and get suspicious or do they leave you alone for the most part even with it on the windshield or mounted on the mirror? They probably don't notice so much if it's on the mirror but I say that just for those that may come up alongside you. I myself would eventually like to get one that is completely just installed into the car, jammers and all.

I keep them high, behind and added tint strip I added, and either mirror tap or ran the cable up the A-pillar. Add the Dash Cam, helps make it blend in. if in a taller vehicle.
