I dont know much about these, but wondering if they can be used without an Escort RD? We have some very smart and creative people in this forum, wether its writing unique location based software to an R7, 3D printed head mounts and recently custom magnetic mounts for the new Radenso DS1 to name a few. Maybe Johnny Boy or someone else? Is it possible?

Yes. the ZR5 is a standalone jammer I believe. the ZW5 is an RD pair only.

I was looking to convert my ZW5 to a ZR5, so I didn’t have to rely on always running a ER RD, but have been struggling to locate just the “interface box” and “controller”. From my understanding, the bridge box and heads are the same between the models. You would just need to run the interface cable from the bridge box through the fire wall to the interface box & hardwire to a power source. In speaking with ER, they do not sell these parts ala carte.

The ZW5’s rely on the Escort RD for alerts (audibly and visually), and use a special smart cord with a wireless communicator in them to connect to the shifter interface.

Thanks @6thgear. The option of not running wires through the firewall is interesting to me as I consider a new vehicle. How do you like yours? Are you happy with the protection? If facing DE can you run 3 heads up front?

Initially I had 2 heads mounted vertically in the kidney grills of my F32 and they tested well with @thebravo with an XLR and I believe a TSS.

I have since moved the setup to the family SUV and added a 3rd head but need to have it tested.

ER has claimed you cannot use more than 2 heads per side, as you may have inconsistent results (not sure if it’s a power issue, or interference related). Also ports 3/4 are hard coded to “Rear”

I believe it was @gorgid who did some testing with the ZW5s and different configurations with good results.

I have been targeted 6 or so times, two times cough me by surprise (not marked or setup in a common place), and I’m unscathed.

I realize none of this is concrete evidence and just my experiences.

I will say, I wish ER “shifters” would ID the gun, and not have a “latch” so you are aware when you are no longer being targeted.

There was some testing of the escort shifters, I can't recall if they were the ZR5 or the 360ci, (same shifters and performance between all I believe) but I recall there being some inconsistency with DE. They did ok on some guns but we're very weak on others. I tested a pair of ZW5 a while back against a single DETC (maybe 2018 or 2019), and they were about equivalent to running an ALP dual against a single DE, jammed ok down to about 600-700 feet than PTs on the sides... https://www.rdforum.org/threads/83002/#post-1190100. Now that was a while back and there has been at least one update so no idea how well they do now or if that update changed anything dragon related. Only thing I can say is updates seem pretty infrequent on them. That said the install of the ZW5 is a snap. If you don't face DE a lot then they do fine on everything else.
