Hey All – It’s been quite some time since I’ve been on the forum. Too much to mention why but I need some help. I currently still have a Beltronics (Bel) STi-r Plus installed and the control pad is starting to fail. I can no longer get to the settings as the VOL button no longer works. Obviously some kind of membrane keyboard under those buttons that must have flattened out or worn out. Two questions are as follows:

  1. I cannot find a replacement control pad anywhere. I checked eBay, the internet, and even went back to my original installer. He may have one for the old Escort series which I believe had a blue (vs. red) led backlight. I can only find speakers, receivers, and interfaces but not the control pad. Anyone know where I can get just that part?
  2. I’m sure there are comparison threads somewhere on here but to ask up front, is it work keeping the Beltronics STi-R+ or get the Escort? I don’t need laser shifting since I have ALP’s installed. I think the Escort MAX CI 360 comes with shifters and the Escort IX CI does not? Is the Escort IX CI the same as the MAX CI 360 but w/o the shifters? Either way, the big question is to determine if either one of these is worth the upgrade over the Bel STi-R+.
If anyone knows, I’d really appreciate it!

Thanks!

Personally, when my STiR does eventually have issues, I won't put anymore money into it. I only use it segmented to Ka band these days and my R7 always alerts well in advance of the STiR. You can purchase a 360ci without the shifters but for many of us that have owned it, we weren't that impressed. It's definitely quieter than the Bel but I had issues with my rear antenna falsing and Escort hasn't provided any updates essentially since it was launched. The customer support from Escort was worthless.

I'd recommend getting a good windshield detector and save your money. Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for that info. So is it safe to say there are no decent "installed" radar detectors these days? I really don't want to go the windshield route as I have my original windshield Redline which I always felt performed better than the STi-R +. With the exception of the annoying blind side K band alerts on the STi-R +, it's been pretty decent. I'm hoping my installer can find an old Escort 9500ci control module (don't care that's it's LED is blue). I would assume that should work on the Bel? As for Escort, my installer did mention that since they got bought, they've been pretty unresponsive which confirms your comment on their support. (He pushes K40 which I'm familiar with.) Also, the price on the installed Escort is like a one to two grand higher than the STi-R + was. You would think by now there would have been a decent replacement for installed detectors. I bought this unit back in 2013. Sigh ...

Thanks again!

I've got a system as well that I'll part with cheaply. It came attached to an ALP system that I bought for parts.
