Hi there,
A thread to list some BASIC core functions needed for the Bluetooth connected DS1 to Radenso App to function for me.
Not a Theia thread in any way, though I'm sure items listed here would be desired for Theia too.
DS1 specific requirements only.
I know 3rd party apps will join the game, but to get me up and running the manufacturer app will be step 1.

Note that I will lean towards hands free motorcycle functionality.
So far the only detector so far that doesn't require a cord to my helmet (I have a basic cruiser without navigation or sound systems) is the V1G2 to android phone running JBV1 to Sena headset.

So my list in no specific order:
  • Seamless app startup when sensing DS1 powered on
  • Compatible BT function over many device BT versions
  • Sends alert tones (more choices for app to use so Ka can be loud and distinct) through phone audio to speaker system (Sena or other)
  • Sends sounds for manual button press on DS1 either menu or volume buttons etc. (I like to tap a RD button once in a while to check connectivity.)
  • Display screen to have a large GPS speedometer display option, in white
  • Display screen to have large clock display
  • Display to have clear alert ramp display, while having ability to flash the screen brightly for several seconds upon initial alert (Like a blue screen flashing for Ka)
  • Ability to start other apps upon starting DS1, like turn on ALP app so I don't have to manually do it. Could be for Highway Radar, JBV1, Waze etc. too.
  • Shuts down everything it opened when DS1 powered down.
  • Has an alert log
  • Dim mode screen saver, while still having speedometer and clock bright, and brightens with alerts.
  • Will operate fully in the background and show over other apps if live alert is present, returns to background afterwards.
  • Can be run full function, screen dark while in a jacket pocket. (No having to set up on holder.)
  • Will do database and firmware updates over BT, with choice of using mobile data or Wi-Fi phone connection.
  • Logs and data from app easily sent to laptop file for easy sharing or diagnostics with others
  • And of course the full menu settings available for adjusting on screen
  • Resets phone system audio to previous app setting, so alerts aren't accidentally muted or volume too low.
  • The alerts will not have much delay through the app to audio.
  • The detector will follow app settings in addition to it's own, with app preference, so alerts muted by the app aren't alerting on the detector first and muting after app gets it. In other words the app settings control the detector. With option for detector to revert to previous after disconnected from app.
That's a quick list off the top of my head.
I know there will be tons of detailed feature requests, and a dream of being like a JBV1, but those will come someday.
This is core functionality stuff that would make the DS1 a desirable choice for me on motorcycle and other vehicles.
Any other must have initial feature requests specific to the DS1?

Hi there, @DC Fluid. I just read your list and I especially like item n#7:
  • Display to have clear alert ramp display, while having ability to flash the screen brightly for several seconds upon initial alert (Like a blue screen flashing for Ka)

JB is making an app for the DS1?
He confirmed it in the JBV1 thread.

I'm glad the DS1 does not rely on the phone for functionality. Having to use a phone app to get my V1 to lock out door openers is, IMHO, stupid. I like the detectors that do it all by themselves.
Except the way most detectors do it “themselves” is terrible compared with how JBV1 handled it.

Well, let's hope it's light years better than the way the other Attowave lockouts work.

Yup, I like that and is a great visual heads up to go with alert tones when on the bike when on JBV1.
I might feature request a longer flashing period for the bike use as eyes on road is pretty important.

There are a lot of things that we are not going to do with our app due to patent concerns. The app will be very simple at launch, with the ability to change settings and update the device.

So reading into this:
The app won't be displaying or sounding alerts, detector only? So a cord to helmet for now?
Third party apps will have to be the way to do most of the OP requests?
What sort of timeline (years...) do you vision restricted functionality due to these patents?
Thanks for anything you can share.

When we put Escort out of business or buy them we should be able to open things up more. We told them we were interested in acquiring them but they ignored us. I don't think it will be too much longer, maybe 2-3 years at the most. Of course who knows, maybe they will be able to convince some sucker PE company to pay a premium for them before then....

For now, third party apps will have to do most of the heavy lifting for more advanced features.

Agree.. The only thing I want / need an app for is easy configuration and updates.

Has Radenso commented on lockouts? I think they have but can't remember as there are several different threads about the DS1 ongoing.. I also think @Vortex talked about them in his review.. Maybe I'll go back and watch it again.

Yes, they have auto lockouts. That's all we know at this time. Let's hope it's better than the R7's.

Yeah that's what I meant.. I know the DS1 has lockouts but I think I read where they said they were improved... I'll go back and scour the threads and watch Vortex video review again...

Okay, good to know to watch for 3rd party app developments going forward.
With the excitement with the mounting options ramping up I'm sure apps won't be long either.

I haven't done a bunch of testing with the DS1's autolockouts to figure out all the nuances of it yet, sorry. It has the feature and I've seen it kick in and work over several days in one or two locations, but I don't regularly go past the area that has given the R7 trouble in the past.
