Purchased a V1 the 1st month/year they became available. Haven't kept up with what is the one to have or the best B4B.

If you liked the V1G1, you will love the V1G2. It has amazing range on Ka and is way better with false alerts. It is a top contender. Take a look at the Uniden R7 too.

I agree that if you liked you original V1, the gen2 may be for you. However, to maximize its potential, you would be best off pairing it with JBV1 for or if you are an iPhone user V1Driver. I run both the V1G2 and Uniden R7. Both are fantastic detectors but the V1 is slowing becoming my favorite.

@LQQK, @2018GTI and @bslaws have nailed the detector recommendations. I agree with them and would personally lean toward the V1G2 with your background, but the R7 is a very strong performer as well in a "stand-alone" package.

So, is it basically a coin flip between V1G2 & R7?

I know it's probably been asked way too many times...But...

If you were asked by a family member which "ONE" to purchase, what would you suggest?

V1G2 for simplicity and accuracy.

I would tell that "family member" if they don't mind pairing their detector to an Android phone and they want to have some really neat features, the V1G2 with JBV1 is pretty hard to beat. If they're looking for more of an "all-in-one" detector, than the R7 is the choice for them.
