Here is my project mostly completed.

Parts as follows:
ISG thermal imager with video out
Cheap 7" backup monitor https://www.ebay.com/itm/254840202713
IP67 box (probably not) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08GG2W134/?tag=rdf0cd0c-20

I pulled the core, power connector, video output connector, front germanium lens and buttons out of the original housing. The thermal core was a tight fit but I got it in. I was trying to keep the package as small as possible but wish I had a little bigger box. I drilled holes right at the seam between the lid and bottom for the cords. Once I am happy with everything, I will silicone the lid and where the wires come through. The unit runs on 12VDC which make wiring it for power easy. My plan is to epoxy a big magnet on the bottom and stick it on my roof when I am driving at night. I will just run the cords through the door/weather stripping.

I like the clear top so that I can see if any moisture is accumulating inside.

Total cost is about $345.00

is that an automotive grade camera? if not you might have issues with vibration. when I was searching for camera's a few years ago it was recomended to use one that was designed for automotive use. not sure how much of a difference that was just what the company I talked to told me.

also be careful how you attach the magnet to be sure there is no way for it to vibrate between the two. I tried to use a suction cup mount as a temporary setup and found at above 100 it started to vibrate to the point the camera could not compensate giving me a slightly blurry image.

Edit: the video is unavailable

EDIT: It's made for firefighters so I am not too worried. I don't plan on going above 100 so no worries there ;). I have some pretty forgiving foam padding in the box which should dampen most of the vibrations. I hope to try it out next week on a trip to northern Idaho where I hit a deer several years ago.

I have linked the video in the Short video of my dogs on my 120" projector screen. since the video won't post for some reason.

Interesting project. Where did you get the Elite XR, and for how much?

@johnboy00 Picked it up off fleabay for $300. It was pretty simple to make with a little dismantling and soldering. I believe the core is capable of 320x240 resolution. I would like to get a higher resolution imager but that's for a future project.

I have a service call this week in northern Idaho where I hit a deer a few years back so I am anxious to try it out. I like to leave about 4am to avoid as much traffic as possible. The highway is mostly narrow winding 2 lane and heavily wooded so deer have a tendency to pop out of nowhere.

Ok good. We will call you when hikers get lost in the woods.

do you have 4wd?
As a matter of fact I do. Purchased this 99 Jeep TJ for $1500 with a thrown rod. I picked up a used 4 banger for $150 and rebuilt it. I found a used 1st generation Boosted Technologies supercharger for $800. Fuel management and timing still needs some tweaking but runs great.

I have thought about volunteering with the local search and rescue but I don't have the time right now. Maybe when I retire.
