Escort’s M1 dash cam worth it?

Hi all, I wanted to know if anyone has any feedback about the M1 dash cam running with their detector? It looks too simple not to have hooked up with my RL360C as a safety measure, I’m just wondering if it’s worth the $200 or if I should go with a legit dash cam set up.

If you want something simple and clean and takes around 5 minutes to install go with it.

If you want better resolution and features go with something different.

Is the M1 worth the price they are asking for it? I would say no.

Personally.. I don't own that dash-cam. But if it's $200 I'd rather reach out to Amazon or Viofo and grab a dual channel setup. That seems a better investment over a M1 that just shows you visibility of the front, especially since you get a 1080p setup for < $150

Agreed. I asked Escort why they couldn't add integration with the detector that would show GPS, SPEED, and ALERTS imbedded in the footage.

I've done a review of the M1 dashcam here. Overall, compared to other dashcams, I think it's overpriced and missing out on some otherwise helpful features. That said, what you're really paying for is convenience so you can have a dashcam more closely integrate with your RD. If you want a tighter package as well as just a simple front facing dashcam that records when you drive, it would do the job.

After reading that I think I’d rather try the Viofo for the quality and features over the convenience factor. Thanks!

What integration is there with any RD? My understanding is that it’s just a cheap forward-only dashcam whose only benefit is leeching power and a mount off an RD, for people who think even a mirror tap is too much work.

Yes, there's lots of people who are intimidated by doing that. If you're tech savvy yourself, try to imagine someone who's not.

I personally like the M1 as a rental car package. One mount and power cable for my RD/dashcam bundle, plus the cig. lighter cable has a USB port for my phone.

Others like to run it as their daily because it's easier to install.

Of course for many of us, we'd prefer another option for our daily, but different strokes for different folks.

Ah, I was hopping to learn that there was some legit integration with the detectors, like it’s using that RJ11 connection to receive the info of what it’s seeing and represent it on screen or something.

100%. @erickonphoenix's videos with his V1 overlays are a perfect example. :)

Speaking of integration and RJ11, it'd also be nice if the M1 didn't break communication and compatibility with the Escort ZW5/ZR5 as well.

Oh wow I didn’t know that was a problem. Yeah, they need to fix that!
