howdy fellas, its been a long while since I"ve posted. I've been a V1 user since 1993....got an additional Escort 9500ix in 2012 I think, and it has gone bad. my v1 was just too chatty which is why I quit using it. I've now come back here....researching the latest RD's... was tempted by the R7 and new v1 but the availibity is not there yet. So, I'm considering just using the V1g1 and incorporating the apps to make it more usable/enjoyable. is the companion app the same or do the same things as jbv1>?

2nd: the power cord has worn down and no longer works...I seem to recall that Valentine told me in 2015 at my last upgrade....that the older cords wouldn't work with the newest update. I've recently plugged in old ones and that instruction seems to ring true. So, can I get a newer cord for my v1 anywhere other than Valentine itself?

The power cord itself is a "bell standard" 4-conductor telephone cord which are plentiful.
I'll bet your issue is the power supply. Tell us more about what you are using. Is it a "plug-in-to-the-socket" power supply?

Of all the apps, JBV1 can do the most for you by a large margin, but I'd suggest you focus on getting a V1 Gen2. It is a huge improvement over the 2015 updated unit you have now. :)

[Edited for clarification] If you haven't been using an app so far, the Gen2 will really surprise you in the amount of noise it rejects now without an app. :)

A couple quick thoughts:
Yes, as @Bloovy One noted, the cord itself is very standard. Valentine even confirms that fact in the user manual and gives some general suggestions with regard to DIY options.

If you're going to use an app with your V1 Gen 1, you'll need the little Bluetooth dongle from the Valentine store (if you don't already have it).

The V1 Companion app is much more basic compared to JBV1. It's good for what it does, but you'll probably want one of the other apps as well. JBV1 for Android users and V1Driver for iOS users are the most common picks.

In regard to availability, the Gen 2 is backordered but not horrendously so. I think they're saying mid-May for orders placed now. Users on this forum who have been ordering this spring have been reporting that the ship times are fairly accurate to what they're shown at the time of ordering. (Past performance is of course no guarantee of the future, but they've seemed pretty consistent lately).

Trade-ins might be slower? But you can probably sell yours for more than the trade-in value.

I think the idea of bringing back the Gen 1 is cool for fun and nostalgia. But if you want to run a detector for everyday driving and not just for fun, the V1G2 is a better bet.

What do you mean availability of the G2 is not there? Most people have been receiving them in 2-3 weeks after ordering. That’s about the same amount of time it took to receive mine when I ordered in March 2020. And the R7 just had a blowout sale on Amazon which is likely why it’s OOS. I imagine it will be back in stock soon.

Exactly, when I sent my V1 in for the upgrade the VR website said about a month for me to receive the Gen2 back.
In actuality it was only like 2 weeks for me.

Definitely upgrade to Gen2 if you can. It's better in almost every way. Unless you want a knob really badly.

Yes! The new Gen2 is the way to go; amazing range, BSM rejection, built-in Bluetooth, the list goes on and on. The only reason to stay with Gen1 is if you have a knob fetish.

I, too, am a first generation owner with multiple upgrades to the latest G1 today. I can attest that the cords work from one to another. They are normal telephone cords!
