So I've been thinking lately about the iXc vs the Max 3 and wanted to discuss how they compare. :)

I don't have a ton of seat time with the iXc since the screen on mine died and it took a while for Escort's repair to open back up due to covid, but now that my iXc is working again, I've been playing with it the past day or so.

Now they're obviously gonna be really similar.

iXc uses the "M4+" platform and has WiFi.

Max 3 uses the "M4++" platform (not an M5 like the previous Max's for some weird reason) and also drops the WiFi.

Cosmetically I prefer all black detectors like the Max 3.

I haven't done any head to head range testing (due to the iXc's broken display) to see if the extra "+" improves things, haha.

IIRC, the iX and iXc liked to do the full tilt K band blast for BSM's and I generally don't see that on the Max 3, so that's a plus.

Looking through the settings, both have RDR, and 4 K band segments. The Max 3 also adds K notch, MRCD, MRCT, AutoJTK, and 9 Ka segments instead of 10 on the iXc.

So thinking about that, the iXc's main advantage is WiFi, while the Max 3 I think (?) has better BSM false presentation, better filtering in general with K Notch, MRCD/CT, and AutoJTK.

What else am I missing? I'm not sure yet about Ka falses, especially with the Max 3's latest update to 1.4. Reports are so far mixed on that.

Does anyone have a fair amount of seat time with both detectors? I'd be curious to hear about your realworld experiences between the two.

I own (2) IXC and they are decent. Both had screen burn in issues. They are pretty chatty with BSM though. I never noticed any KA falses.

I run them in my other two cars and for country driving they aren't bad and have decent range.

What ever happened to them being updatable with the IVT filtering though? :airquote:

Yeah, that never seemed to come to pass. More Escort marketing hype.

@Brainstorm69 and this is why I won't buy another Escort product.

Every Escort item I bought I did due to what they claimed.

Only to find it was due to their false advertising later on.

I predict the Max 3 M4++ will spank the iXc hard on radar detection tests. It detects like the little brother of the RL360c.
The iXc I expect to struggle against even a M360 platform for performance, which also gets noticably beaten by the Max 3.
Once BSM filtering is added to the mix, it's no challenge at all to pick the Max 3 over the iXc.

I did a quick look back at some testing and the iX (non c) helds it own pretty neck and neck with the M360 on 2 of the 3 Ka bands but then lost poorly on the 3 and again badly on K to the M360. I do not believe they changed the detection hardware to the 'c' model but firmware updates could have improved range a bit, but then again same on the M360 too.

My Man Vortex,

We are wrestling with these old windshield mount radar detectors. I gave my custom IX IC away. Im on the Net Radar DSP now with only KA and ALP. Try this setup on a long road trip and see the difference. I think we are asking too much from companies to filter K band and some of the other stuff. Life is just better without it. I had someone hit me with Poliscan the other day over a mile away. There was some serious tech in that LEO's car. I JTK...when i came closer.

Time for you next Video on Radar Lessons Class 102. Is K band really necessary?

Thanks,

Sadly this was before I knew about this forum and Vortex. Who wants to buy all my Escort stuff?

Comparing my Max 3 and my IXC on 34.7.

My Max 3 is neck and neck with my Gen 2.

My IXC is neck and neck on 34.7 with my wire bonded STI Magnum.

Too bad the Max 3 is so leaky to Spectre, being detected according to Vortex @ over 900 ft. If it was as stealth as the XTC, I would have no hesitation about running it in the truck more often.

I was planning on buying the Max 360 and then later on a new credit card billing statement buy the M2. Others on the other thread said they have not updated the Max 360 which is on a old platform.

I tried out a IXC and was pleased it did not have much chatter when going past newer cars with their blind spot sensors going off. I also like it has wifi so I can hook my Bluetooth from my phone to it. So now I am kinda confused on what Escort radar detector to get. Their latest detector with built in camera .....I just don't want to spend that much money for a detector and camera. So I am trying to figure out what is my best option when you go down one tier.

The Max 3 is the newest platform, with best range, but slow response time unfortunately. It's a decent detector otherwise, but can't compete with the new DS1 at the same price point.
The iXC is based on old old tech, glammed up with WiFi and styling. I would avoid it based on tests and reviews.
The Max 360 & 360c would perform between the Max 3 and iXC on range, with better response time and has more modern internals than iXC.
If you want a quiet detector with full features other than Wifi, look for the Cobra DualPro 360 on sale for $349. It's a Max 360 based detector with arrows, and features falling between the Max 360 and 360c. Arrows are smaller but it may be the quietest of the Maxes and quietest of the ones you mentioned.
It's the only Cobra to consider as it's a true Escort Max 360 packaged in a different case
Plus you get the coveted Bel alert tones, because in it's previous life it was a Bel model.
I too would avoid the Max 360 original model as it lacks some important features for making it quiet, like segmentation.

Thanks for the info. I think I will get the Max 3 detector. Based on reviews it is better than the more costly IXC with thr improved platform. I assume the IXC is just as leaky to the Spectrum as the Max 3 is. I kinda wonder why do they still offer the IXC is the Max 3 is a better unit.
Post automatically merged:

1.3 fixed the auto sensitivity in auto mode
1.4 fixed Ka false alerts
1.5 fixed some bug issues.

It looks like this is now a great unit.

They offer the iXC and many old models like 9500ix still, to milk as much money out of it as they can, while advertising it as modern.

Max 3 is decent, but for the same money you can now order the Radenso DS1 which destroys the Max 3 on every aspect of a detector.
It has all the auto functions and a great customer support.
Give it some consideration.

I auditioned a Max 3 for a week recently, as my girl has been asking about trying a detector. I wanted to get her something plug and play, have auto lockouts, and the DS1 is on back order. In short, I couldn’t stand the detector. It’s painfully slow to react to both K and Ka band, and it’s obvious that it could easily miss a brief I/O whiff. The ramp up is terrible. Instead of a linear and progressive ramp up, the meter on the display will visibly jump up but the audio ramp will pause for a second or two before going full tilt. The filtering really isn’t that spectacular. And I also didn’t like the alert presentation when it did false. It wasn’t always a low blip like I see from my Unidens or V1.

I have absolutely no idea why you would buy this over an R3 that’s $100 cheaper or a DS1 for the same price.

Well put. I figured it had a place over the R3 with the autolockouts, but now that the DS1 is out, I don't think there's a good reason to get a Max 3 anymore. EL isn't a big selling point, IMHO, plus the DS1 will eventually get an app for settings changes too if that matters so...
