Hi all -

I've created a mount setup that I'm really happy with and fits my needs perfectly.
Those needs/requirements are:
1) Sunshade compatible. A MUST in Arizona and almost every winshield mount makes a sunshade awkward or impossible to use.
2) NOT a blendmount/under mirror. I don't want my RD that low where it reduces windshield real estate. Also, it's kind of an attention grabber front and center.
3) Easy to remove/reinstall. This is for the sunshade or if I'd like to store it away.
4) Nothing fugly/jerry rigged. This is going in a new shiny car that I'm trying to keep nice.

This is a combination of ideas I've found here, so thanks to the community!

The two needed parts and assembly are as follows:
A: MagicMount ProXL (Flush style) ($19): Sticks to the upper windshield. Flush is key to allow a sunshade to work. ProXL might be overkill, I think the smaller Scosche mount could work, but I wanted to be sure this was solid. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074K9VXV6/?tag=rdf0cd0c-20

B: Ebay mount ($12): Thanks to @westwind77 for the idea. Links the RD to the Scosche mount. https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-ESCORT...-/114080048907?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286

C: MTX-1020 MirrorTap: Power to the mirror because routing to a cigarette lighter sucks. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L2SVXQO/?tag=rdf0cd0c-20

Assembly: The magnetic part from the Escort mount attaches to the Ebay bracket (with unnecessary parts removed). A metal plate sticks to the eBay bracket. The Scosche magnet comes with a plate that could be trimmed down (or used as is), but I had a spare metal plate that fit perfectly on the eBay bracket. Stick flush Scosche mount to windchield, tap power, and you’re done.

This setup is rock solid, but I can still remove it easily. The motion is more of a twist/rocking to remove, not down as this removes the RD and leaves the bracket on the windshield (that could be desirable though).

Hope someone finds this helpful!

Well done. Thanks for sharing that. I love my BlendMount, but I may have to look into doing what you did because the stem on the mirror in my new 2021 Mazda 3 is too short to mount the BlendMount on.

Thanks for you for this info, really creative! I copied your idea, however the problem I am running into is that the detector keeps changing angles/ sagging. It looks like the teeth from the ebay mount do not align with with OEM magnetic mount. After some bumps and hard driving the face of the detector starts to drop slowly.

I have tried to tighten the knob as much as I can, however it is pretty much maxed out.

Nicely done.

Just a thought, do you think the windshield in flat enough that you could adhere the metal plate to the windshield? If so, you could attach the Scosche mount to the Ebay bracket. That way when you pulled down your detector/bracket assembly the only thing remaining on the windshield would be the thin metal plate.

Try getting the RD exactly you want, then carefully remove from the magnetic base and use crazy/gorilla glue on the knob/parts that move. Leave for a few hours and then the knob won't/can't loosen. I've done this with other phone type mounts with rotatable 360 degree knobs.

Thanks for sharing. excellent set up, Up high and out of sight
JCP: a quick question. If the top of the RL360 is pressed up to or almost touching the car headliner when in its normal position, if you glue the knob after its tightened how do you remove the detector from the mount when needed as you will have to tilt the nose of the detector down toward your lap in order to remove it then retighten this same knob when its reinstalled? Thanks

Wait, I see now, the base on the window separates. from the detector base. Got it.
I went back and looked at the pic again. Thanks

Interesting, I did not use the magnet to windshield part. I stuck the ebay mount directly to the windshield. Car is in the shop right now, but im thinking of making some type of pin to lock in in place.

Honestly what happened to the old school metal mounts! I could care less about this silly Escort mag mount. Can we start a petition for Escort to make a slim permanent mount?!
