Your questions have been asked and answered repeatedly. I suggest that before you rush to get your clever and unique point in, you first read the thread to see those answers and all those others who’ve tried to make your point before you.

Maybe they can. They appear to be hitting some stumbling blocks as well...

Before you accuse people of not reading, perhaps you should read what has been posted here and in the Escort and VR forums. The v1G2 is shipping w/ 2-3 weeks lag time. In fact, my friend received one fairly recently in about 10 days after purchasing. That was about the same time I received mine right before Covid became widespread so that looks to be their normal schedule. It looks like the RL is also shipping as well, or at at least people seem to be receiving them from some source. It's been even acknowledged by Jon himself that these RDs use "ancient parts" and that's why they are able to send out completed units. Whether that's the reason for Theia's delay and not these "legacy" RDs is anyone's guess.

The chips should have been ordered a long time ago? Like last year? 2nd they aren’t using super new and fast chips! Older chips that have been made along time ago? Escort and v2 funny can still keep making units? Maybe a little slower but still making them?

That is not how production of a new piece of equipment works. You don't order the production hardware you think you might need and then build to that, instead you develop to near completion and then order production hardware.

While developing and prototyping you order chips (and PC boards) in batches of a few, at most, sometimes one or two at a time. And you often do your development using poorly (for production) packaged development boards and hardware.

Once the concept is mature you start working on packaging, laying out your production boards and physical configuration. At this point you can be very close to production ready. You lay out the final configuration, still ordering parts in low numbers. You build the Beta production (pre-production) units and start finalizing software. After the pre-production units are working then you order production hardware. This way there are no late development changes that leave you holding large quantity of parts that no longer apply to your production units.

Radenso showed us the "final" RF section in mid-late 2020. This means they were working on packaging at that time. Once the final configuration was complete they would have started to order things in large numbers.

Just based on what was said and the pictures shown I think Radenso was on track for pre-production hardware in about August of 2020. That means they may have been ready to order production quantities of chips in the late September to early November time period. This would have been good timing for a December 2020 release date.

Looking at the hardware Radenso has displayed so far you can start to get an idea of several of the specific chips used. Picking just one of them, the Xilinx Spartan 7, which pictures and Jon has confirmed the model number of, you can look at what the availability problems might be. Current delivery of the Spartan 7 in production quantities is running 40, or more, weeks out. If Radenso tried to order those in November 2020 they probably still would not have those chips in hand today.

So yes, they could have ordered the chips last year, and still not have them today. I have experienced the exact same thing for a work project, hardware I ordered last year, originally with a 12 week lead time, is still not in hand. Our purchasers have looked for alternate sources, but there are none to be had at this time for that specific hardware. You get on the order list and when the suppliers get down to your company name they ship. I could change the hardware used, selecting something with a shorter shipping date, but that would require extensive rework of the design...and would not do what I wanted it to do.

As for other brands, as pointed out they are often running behind on production also. They typically use less advanced, less costly, and easier to produce, chips than Theia, and they were at the finalizing stage months before Radenso, meaning they could order parts right at the leading edge of the chip shortage.

It is not a conspiracy, and it is impacting all manor of devices. For home use I am in the market, and have been for several months, for a new multichannel / multi bus mixer. I want the Behringer X32 Rack as it is a good compromise of capability and quality. But it looks like I will probably have to wait 3 to 5 months before I can get one...because of the current chip shortage.

T!

More shortages.
I've been trying to get an item that only Lowes & Ace Hardware have but they both have been out of stock for some time and are not taking orders. I ran across the video below on the current tool supply shortage and thought I'd pass it along. The talking bear format drives me up the wall but I ignored it to focus on the content.

The supply shortages can also cause other problems, in that less scrupulous suppliers will have you bidding against other consumers for the same product regardless of when you put your order in.

Some of the items at my wife's company they can't get because other companies are out-bidding their supplier's contracted prices. Contracts don't mean anything right now; it's the wild west.

Yes there is a shortage of some goods. Undeniable. Scalpers and a-holes, mostly.

The fact is, us common folk, the pandemic has just been a drain.

I haven’t stopped going to work or paying my bills, even though for 2 months I was forced home.... life has not stopped otherwise. I don’t know about you folks, I’m tired of the excuses.. if me an everyone I know like me has been at work this entire time, who are the people staying at home?

Wanna know how F'ed supply chain is right now? I can't get a certain cable I need because there's a global shortage of polyvinyl chloride for the cable jacket. Yes, that's PVC. There's a shortage of f'ing PVC.

I run complex electromechanical projects and generally can project out a range of timelines fairly accurately depending on confidence level. I have no confidence in my ability to project timelines right now. Radenso is making the right choice not making promises.
Someone told me about the PVC shortage last week and that it was related to the winter weather in Texas. I didn't even realize there was a shortage. Strange times :).

Is that right? Yesterday I tried to buy a 1/2 cordless Milwaukee impact gun.not a cheap item. Lowes and Homies both had the gun but no batteries and no ETA of when they will be back in stock.. Thank goodness, the gun can be powered by the BS which you say is in ample supply.

A number of tool deals on slickdeals. I’ve bought a whole bunch of dewalt and Milwaukee tools w/ batteries in the past 3 months with zero issue. In store, Lowe’s and HD always has lousy stock of batteries even before Covid.

Check CPO outlets. I buy a ton of tools from there.

We have all the M18 batteries you could ever want for the cheap Milwaukee impacts.

On the Lowe's web site a particular electric push mower I wanted was still out of stock along with a more expensive model from the same manufacturer. Neither model had an "Add To Cart" button, only a button to "Notify Me When Available".

Today on the Lowe's site I saw that the more expensive model had the "Add to Cart" button showing so I thought I'd break down and just order that one since I've been waiting for some time. After I added it to my cart three shipping options appeared. The first two were greyed-out and not selectable (pick up at store or deliver to my home). The only delivery method available was "Freight" and it had a whopping $150 charge!

After some significant additional searching I found the model I wanted in-stock at a Tool Supply Warehouse in North Dakota at same sale price as Lowe's and they are shipping it today to the Wash DC area for only $24. Thank you ND. There are a lot of everyday products that have been scarce here for weeks. I've not seen supply problems like this since a year ago when it all started.

My neighbor works at lowes. He said they are selling around 15 riding mowers a day. I can only imagine push mowers 😳

I think it’s important to distinguish significantly increased demand (mowers, bikes, other bigger purchases now that people have stimmy money and feel more secure in the economy as we exit covid) from supply problems caused by part shortages.

Not really, if you want something and can’t get it do you really care if it’s because it’s in high demand or because lower quantities are being produced?

Following statement not directed at you:
Chip shortages are real. Take Radenso at their word, or not, as to why Theia isn’t out yet, at this point nothing that is said here is going to change your mind about that.
