Problem with Uniden R3 radar detector with 12v charger in new 2021 Nissan Rogue.

My Uniden R3 radar detector uses the 12v charger it was supplied with and worked perfectly fine until last week when I leased new car, 2021 Nissan Rogue. When I plug in the charger into the 12v accessory outlet, radar detector doesn't turn on although light on charger lights up. I unplug everything but only after taking out the charger and plugging it back in 4 or 5 times, then R3 turns on and powers up. I tried another older 12v charger that has dual device chargers and that light goes on too. I plugged Uniden charger into one of the dual chargers and same thing. Have to unplug and plug in the Uniden charger numerous times before R3 will turn on. Even when R3 goes on, it doesn't stay on. When I turn ignition on again, no power to R3 but charger light is on. Uniden still won't power up.

Since charger worked fine last week, could it possibly be the new car's 12v built-in accessiry outlet that's not working correctly? Although power lights are on, just seems like something is not making good contact. Or could it be Uniden charger just needs to be replaced? It doesn't seem like it's the radar detector itself but guess it could be. Uniden was no help and neither was BestRadarDetectors who sold me the R3.

Can anyone offer some troubleshooting advice other than wiring directly to the car?

I would try plugging the 12 volt charger with the radar detector into another vehicle and see if it acts up but if not it could be possibly a loose connection on the new vehicles cigarette lighter outlet or 12 volt outlet.
Just something to try starting out.

Can u try another device in the plug or use a multimeter to check?

Hello @Barbara and welcome aboard RDF! Sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your R3. As @08Z51C6 and @Vancity23 have suggested, try plugging your detector into another vehicle or something else into the Rogue's plug to see if the it's the detector or the plug.

If it's the detector acting up, it might be the cord has a damaged connection.
Try another cord, even from an Escort to see if power stays on.
Wiggle your Uniden cord a bit to see if it gets a reaction.
Especially up near the connection to the detector.

Good troubleshooting so far!

I suspect a bad Uniden charger.

Definitely try the setup in a different vehicle. If no different, try a different "charging cable".

Ever since I started using the Uniden R3 in my 2018 Rogue, I kept the USB wire plugged into the charger, and it worked fine. When I tried R3 with a different 12 volt device, it still didn't work in new auto.
Turns out, just removing the USB plug from the Uniden charger was the answer. Now R3 works fine in new 2021 Rogue. Stupid me, even though I knew the USB was for downloading firmware updates, it had always worked when I kept it plugged into the charger in previous car. Looks like the R3 was "conflicted" with different signals. Pretty simple fix, don't know why I didn't try removing it first.
