I mean, back in 2015 or so when it came out, the Max Ci was definitely a great product IMO. I have one with a 2-digit serial number so I suspect I was one of the first adopters. It was the closest we got to a digital Redline platform and on the laser side, though it had its initial hiccups, it did quite well against the guns of its time after the first update.

But I think what we’re seeing is basically the story with most Escort products — the pace and quality of the updates rapidly drop off with time. The products get long in the tooth (remember how ancient the 9500ci was before it got replaced?)…. they sometimes get very trivially rebranded/repackaged (Max Ci Platform) and you end up with a handful of products that are essentially the same hardware but differ in how well they keep the software updated.

Overall I think today, I wouldn’t buy the MaxCi/Max360Ci. But going back to its first year or two, it was a really compelling product — there wasn’t a lot of competition. Stinger was going through a North American implosion and while ALP did great on laser, its radar integration experience was really rudimentary.

Just tried to update my Max 360ci's on 2 separate cars... Both would allow me to update the red-light database but failed to update the firmware. Same computer I have always used to update them, latest version of detector tools from Escorts webpage... I get one of 2 errors totally at random on both detectors. 1st is a warning this device requires 12 volts before firmware can be processed. (Both cars a pretty new with good batteries) if that doesn't pop up I get an Exception Object reference not set to an instance of an object, with a ton of Stack Trace lines after...
Totally lost here!!! Any thoughts on what I am screwing up?
I suspect that the issues fundamentally lies with Escort's backend service and that the desktop app crashes due to its lack of robustness to "recover gracefully" from the issue. By "gracefully" I mean that it accurately report the cause of the issue and then return the user to the point in the application from which the failed operation was initiated. ....this, I share, by benefit of my 30+ years in the field of software development.

My suspicion about backend service issues is supported by implication of things said to me by an Escort representative

Update: Escort is not responding to requests for assistance with their Detector Tool application issues (crashes, etc.) relative to the Max ci platform.....looks like we are on our own

I have built in radars in a few of my cars. One has the escort and alp lasers and my other has the redenso /alp combo. It maybe the fact that I had escort for years , but I can’t stand the redenso to the point I had them take it out and install the escort. I almost got nailed a few times because the ka band sensativity no matter how I have it set just doesn’t get the distance of the escort. It’s also significantly easier to mute / lockout locations on the escort. With the escort and alp jammers installed it’s truly the best of both worlds.

Unfortunately I don’t see escort coming out with a new model for at least a few years. Chip shortage ect.
