Guys, I am no GO PRO on this segmentation. I probably should have got the MAX 360i but obviously i messed up. I will test the settings out for 2 weeks or so and see when K goes off, what shows up. I use the standard display with arrows, and dont like the spec display. Its too much information for me.

My source is from Escort. I do have an ALP OOBER System installed so I am safe if I get shot at. Also im not breaking the speed limit.

I can be a pain and ask Vortex to check all his Radar Guns and see what bands they are on, but the universe for this will be too large and a unreasonable request. Im going by what Escort told me so I have to test it before i can gallup around and report back.

How can you test a negative? If you turn that segment off, the RD won't alert to guns in that frequency and you'll have no idea that it didn't alert but should have. It's not worth even testing. Don't waste your time. If you want to drive over PSL, your going to have to open up the range so you can detect off-center frequency police radar guns, which is pretty much all of them. They don't regularly adjust them and they drift all over the place.

The person at Escort was wrong to tell you to run with only segment 2, plain and simple.

You don't have to ask Vortex to see what frequency his guns are on. He or any one else that has one can open up one of our K band gun antennas and change it to pretty much anything from 24.050 to 24.250 by simply adjusting set screw. That means police radar can fall in whatever range we can adjust to.

Well I guess Escort is more out of touch with reality than I thought!

@Carspear. -You might skate by pretty good, as I would dare say most, and I repeat it as many but not all, will be in that range. However, I wouldn't trust it if you're truly relying on the detector to protect you. The Raptors and Patrols that start centered at 24.125 don't have far to drift to become a danger. I have one I see at around 24.108 in my travels.

Not everyone working at their 'call center' is knowledgeable. You had one rep tell you it is 'ok' and about 2 pages of experienced forum members telling you that you are at high risk if you do so. Obviously the choice is yours but I doubt you will find one member here that would agree with the advice you received from Escort.

Call Escort back, see if you get a different rep/agent and ask them if it is wise to run only one K segment, see their response. I have a feeling they would side with what you have been hearing on the forum.

I'm not trying to sound like an ass here, but I don't understand the two weeks. If you run the detector in one segment of K for two weeks, how are you going to know if you missed any legitimate signals. Especially since you say that you are not exceeding the speed limit so that a patrol car would pull you over. Please enlighten me on your planned two week testing as I am confused by what you are accomplishing.

I plan to test it out for now, takes some time to see whether it suits my area or not. My alerts on my 120 mile commute today were down by 90%. So it was helpful in a way. When it did alert me twice there was a reason for it.

Maybe someone from Escort can chime in as we are in the Escort thread..

If I turn on all the bands, I tend to ignore the alerts. So let's just see how it goes. Cheers!

As said above, you will not know IF it suits your area or not unless you run all K-segments on for a fair amount of time. Enough time to know your locals and what band/frequency they are running. If you even think about straying out of that local geography you would need to turn on the rest of the segments, or run a high risk of missing an alert.

Again, as said above, I could turn off all but one segment on K-band and my unit would be quiet too...but I would also miss my local at 24.199.

If you know for a fact your town does not run K band I guess you could turn if off but you never know if/when they make the switch back. I have seen some local depts who have always run Ka buy a few new vehicles that suddenly have K band. I have also seen depts who have been 35.5 for the last 10 years switch to 34.7. Changes happen, it is just a matter of when.

Segmenting a RD is always a risk, every vendor will tell you that, it is up to the owner to figure out how much they want to wager on it.

For now, enjoy your new toy, have fun....and just watch your speed for the next couple weeks.

Vortex/Guys,

With the new settings the radar is super quiet in the city. I have some long distance commutes coming up so will report back on the freeway performance. But so far, in the city its filtered every door.

Vortex, please make some youtube videos for us!!!

Cheers,

Is should be, you have blocked 3 of its 4 'eyes' to K-band ranges. Just to clarify your wording above the unit is NOT filtering every door, it is 'blind' to every door opener in the ranges you have turned off. Filtering and turning off segments are very different.

Obviously you have been happy with your unit being a lot more quiet and don't seem to mind the risk. I wish you luck with your road trip and be safe! I had a 4 hours trip today, there were a few LEO's, none active. Had one weak 33.8 from a LEO on another road close to the one based on the Waze pin.

Cheers, drive safe. I dont mind it missing few LEOs as im usually at the speed limit. But will report back in a few weeks. If you get to the point when the detector cries wolf every 5 miles then i tend to start ignoring the alerts.

Anyways, I have signed up for the Theia email list.

Yeah, I won't be doing this. Do not try this in Arizona. You will have a ticket quicker than you can say "Thanks officer, have a nice day..."

Be careful! I have a Redline EX which is noisy as can be on K band. In my region on the hiways I travel I have not seen K band for 2 years. I used to keep K segmented to shut it up but I got nervous. Its not a real solution. I am sort of torqued off about the EX, its solidy built but it was expensive and a bit of a letdown. I haven't got a ticket with it segmented on K band but no more risk taking for me.

I suffered from a noisy detector as well. K-notch and TSR is garbage with K-Band wide open on hwy 35. It got so bad I became numb to all alerts. It took a couple months of memorizing the frequencies, driving around all hours of the day and night for the sake of science, using waze and paying attention to frequencies in conjunction with driving around known speed traps around the metro and suburbs.

I know for a fact on my normal commute to work I will see Ka band only, which I have 2,4,5, and 8 segmented. I enabled segment 5 recently after driving past cops in my neighborhood and not getting alerted. Found out the standard three segments alone weren't enough but recently I stopped getting alerts in that range and they are back in the 33.7 range. Perhaps they got new guns or got the current ones manually calibrated who knows.

Anyway, Driving around the suburbs, K-Band segment 1 is all I need.

I don't speed much but I tend to like to get around slower vehicles and 18 wheelers pretty quickly. Commutes are much quieter.

Might switch brands anyway. I only purchased the detector for wifi capabilities just to find out it isn't compatible with my car.

I say do what you want, most people will anyway no matter what others say or show a person. Best of luck, hope you get the results you think you will

KaN 2,5 and 8 are the "standard" segments. Enabling 4 would catch low drifting guns but if you did not initially have 5 enabled, yes you would miss legit LEO's

What would be interesting is if any member who has access to an accurate signal generator could verify that the Narrows toggles on each K & Ka bands were in fact accurate at their currently published frequencies with no overlap or clipping.

I'd like to know this as well. Wonder if @Vortex has done this or has access to test?

Guys a small update. 130 miles today. The secret sauce is working. One LEO blasting Ka and it alerted me. Not even a beep otherwise, No BSM, followed a Mazda all the way and some hondas. No beeps at all except one Ka!!!!! No missed LEO's either.

I have another long trip this wednesday. Todays trip, a 15 alert count was transformed to 1. BTW i was following local driving limits!

Amazing to be so quiet!

If you’re following speed limits, than I guess you don’t have much to worry about. But if you’re doing any amount of speeding in an area where K band is used you’ll get burnt eventually.
