A long time ago when CB Radios were all the rage, some people installed slide trays with contacts on them. (The contacts sat in-between the two tray parts and they wired the CB to the tray it was attached to.)

Pull out stereos had plugs on the back that mated up to the tray it fit in.

There was once an Escort detector bracket for Corvettes that had a plug built-in so that all you needed to do was slide the detector in.

I'd think that something could devised that would include contacts in the bracket itself. No visible cord at all.

The one problem I see with the magnetic contacts you posted a picture of in the other thread was that there's only the two power contacts. That will work great for a majority of people, but not for those that use hardwired accessories.

Welcome and congrats on the G2, that will compliment the MK6 quite well!

why do you say that? i thought you only need positive and negitive, so positive on the center pin and then ground tru the magnet, i was looking at their 4 pin connectors but they only handle 5v.

my plan was to hard wire it using supplied kit and mount it to winshield with magnets, so just an easy pop in and out.

For the accessories you need 4 conductors. :) Two for power, one for data (sharing the same ground as power), one for mute/control signalling.
