Have used a Escort 8500 X50 (successfully! ;) for years and recently purchased a V1 for a great deal. Suggestions on which of the 2 is superior would be much appreciated.

I just saw here there are firmware updates but haven't yet looked further into how to update. I figure there may be an RJ11 to USB adapter needed?

Kind thanks

8500 x50 is a garbage in 2020. Poor antenna, slow processor, no false signal filtering.

Valentine V1 is still an awesome detector in 2020 however it must be an updated version preferably to the latest firmware. Keep in mind V1 can NOT be updated without sending it back to the factory. If its not post Junk K fighter fw version, its also junk just as 8500 x50 due to decreased range, lots of falsing and no option to really customize it.

Also keep in mind V1 will only be an awesome detector if you pair it with JBV1 app and customize it.

I am running Valentine V1 paired with JBV1 app and dont see a need to upgrade even to Valentine V1 gen.2 (V1G2) since V1G2 still is not enough refined as per my standards (still there are some software bugs present even after few FWs).

Let us know whats the firmware version on your Valentine V1 and we can go from there.
cheers.

I have both an x50 and a V1 gen1. Both currently are horrible with vehicle safety radar but good on KA. The edge has to go to the V1.

BaileyAB: You mentioned upgradeability, but will Vanetine still upgrade the V1 Gen1? I didn't think so- they'll just offer the discount on the Gen 2. That's too bad, I would love to update my old V1 Gen 1 AND buy a G2 at the same time but I guess Valentine would rather take my old Gen 1 and throw it out and make less money??

What version did you buy, Gen2 or Gen1? What version of Gen 1 if that's the case?
There is a world of difference between 1 and 2.

Bummer, yet thanks much all the same. Guess I was really lucky! ;) will be way more careful now knowing this "fighter" has lost most of it's fu.

The last 4 of serial # is 0846 so apparently it is 1.8? https://www.rdforum.org/threads/100036/

When I enter serial on V's site I get sad violin music and
"Temporary pause in our Upgrade Offer for out-of-production V1s
The U.S.-based vendor of V1 Gen2's magnesium case is presently far behind in filling our orders. Therefore, we've had to pause V1 Gen2 production. To keep you from being without radar and laser protection for an unknown length of time, we are pausing for a short time our V1 UPGRADE offer.
There will be no change in the $389 price plus shipping for this UPGRADE. This is a $110 discount off the cost of a new V1 Gen2.
Notice of program restart will appear on this page."

Thanks.

The seller threw in a Belltronics Vector 995 for $15, is this also an outdated paperweight?

That fw # is to old. Resell it on ebay amazon local ads marketplace and get yourself either a V1G2 or Uniden R7 and dont look back.
You ll be happy with where your money went with both units.

I strongly disagree with your statement for V1 on this point.
My V1 is dead silent on K band when paired with JBV1 app. I dont know what @johnboy00 did in the last few fw upgrades but he solved Mazda BSM at 24.130s so now V1 give a blimp or two warning alerts then probably after analysing the signal which is at the very dead center of police K frequency goes to mute it while displaying alert as soon as you come in the proximity of Mazda vehicle equipped with BSM. Insane. You are crazy @johnboy00 :)

Thats why I am so pro V1G1 + JBV1 app. Increased range of V1G2 along with FW bugs does not justify switching to Gen.2 at this point since JBV1 app refined V1G1 to a whole another level than V1 was even when paired with YAV1 app.

For those that might be looking for how to upgrade a Gen2:

@BaileyAB, As much as I want to give Johnboy00 credit for the change in Mazda, it was v4.1019 from VR where I saw that change. v4.1021 seems like it might have done some stuff for Buick. (probably all of GM but I experienced a Buick with BSMs that it was silent on)

Both of my new BSM rejection experiences were on relatively empty mountain roads where I was able to pass the vehicles at a relaxed pace without the environment changing much so someone else might not see what I saw if they are in a pack of cars or around multiple K-band sources.

Much thanks :)

All new to me above plug and play and guessing from posts above mentioning various car types, that these cars set off false alerts?

Drive speed limit a majority of the time but coming down a local mtn I visit on occasion, loosing 7k feet, don't like to ride the brakes and no downshift ability in hybrid. On the plus side the 8500 picks up the toll collector everytime Ive seen one go by but plan on experimenting a bit with the V1 before inve$ting in a new one.
