Was thinking. You know when you have been driving for a while and your detector has made no chirp and you start to wonder if your detector is actually working.

could theia be so quiet that it’s scares you in thinking there is something wrong with it ?

With all the highway patrol, Sheriff's cars, city police, Redflex, and other speed signs, I am not worried about quiet. All I ask from Theia is great range, and a fun experience with some development futures on the platform. As Jon had stated, he is really building a countermeasure operating system, not just a detector. This is at the very least the revolution we needed, rather than just an evolution. Will the behaviors be different between this and a traditional legacy detector? Yes. I sure hope so.

Essentials for any road trip, no matter what detector you own 😜

My OG Redline goes off maybe once a month unless I travel a bit. I frequently forget it's even there (k OFF) with segmented Ka. I expect Theia to be even quieter with K on!

What I want to know is, will Theia have the option to upgrade the firmware on it so that it falses more and displays even more threats than it did on previous firmware? ☺️

It could be that quiet, given what it is looking to alert too. Maybe you can setup to visually alert to say an RLC so you know it is working, but I am not sure...

Perhaps Radenso could have an "Antiquated' setting where Theia will randomly sound alerts and display a frequency to make all the old school people feel right at home.

With 3rd party apps being available, I'm sure we will have simulation modes where you can choose performance characteristics of every legacy detector since the OG CM Escort.
We will only need one detector now at the shootouts and BSM comparisons.
Who will step up and develop the app so we can remember the good old days?

If Theia is to quiet, I'll say out loud. "Hey Theia, are you there?" hopefully Theia will answer back like Google Assistant!

Didn't they mention that they're planning an option for the detector to alert to known BSM's if you like? "Hey I see a Mazda ahead and two Hondas behind" for example.

Edit, here's a quote:

We are not rejecting or keeping any data other than the GUI - that's the difference between filtering and classification. If you want, Rai can tell you that there are 4 Mazdas, 2 Escalades, and 8 Fords in your proximity.

That's opposed to other radar detectors who are designing "filters" that sift through and reject incoming RF in search of certain characteristics that match a signal that the filter is designed for.
That could be a great option to help build trust in Theia in case you're concerned about it being scary quiet. :)

The new Theia owner says, "Hey Theia, please set an Alert activity alarm for every 30 minutes while you are powered up".

Theia replies depending on which voice pack is active:

"Got it, you want cookie too?", Cookie Monster voice

"Yes my Master", in best Darth Vader's voice

I have a feeling that those that want it will have multiple ways, multiple App, and multiple options for not having to worry if Theia is actually on if one can't deal with the new silence!

I like knowing that JBV1 is activity working so I have it announce the County Names when I change Counties.

This could also potentially be used as a method to attempt some more rigorous testing of legacy detectors' filtering capabilities than anything that's been done so far. For example, set Theia to alert to all door openers and drive along a predetermined route to count the door opener alerts, then bringing the detector you want to test along the same route and seeing how many/which ones it can lock out.

I'm looking forward to selecting the sexiest female voice I can get to announce radar alerts.
Then when she speaks up, my wife can look at me like:

You would have to account for Theia extended range reaching out farther than those legacy detectors, but it could be done.

Question: What, why?

Once Theia is released, who cares about legacy frequency based faux Radar Detectors and all their lack of ability.

By the way, one can already do what you are saying by taking a brand new or factory reset detector and drive down the street. Repeat three times and see how many are properly locked out and how many are not IE who needs a Theia to prove how bad frequency based faux radar detectors are?
