I picked up a Max 360c on sale last week (still expensive) to put in to my daily driver to quiet things down a bit while driving around the city. Coming from an R7 used daily since last January, I wanted to try something new and though I was leaning toward a RL360c it showed poor MRCD performance in recent tests and I live in a heavy MRCD area.

I now have had a bit of seat time and have completed some testing and wanted to share some findings.

Settings
  • Highway mode
  • TSR off
  • K notch on
  • Cruise alert 20MPH

Pros

It’s pretty quiet! BSM filtering is much better on this detector than the R7, at least on v1.29. I’ve been running K notch on and TSR off so far. That said, I don’t have a lot of seat time with R7’s 1.33 recent update a few days ago and would like to give that an honest try here soon as the M360c has been on the windshield every day.

MRCD detection is just OK in most cases and in use heavily in my area. Not industry leading, but good enough most of the time. I was able to sniff out several MRCD locations with enough advanced warning to slow down and avoid a ticket. I am noticing several more MRCD falses with the M360c over the R7 and with even more added improvements to MRCD on the new R7 update, I am looking forward to giving that a try soon as well.

34.7 range is pretty good. Because segmenting has no effect on this detector, all bands are on. We took my Stalker ATR and Bushnell out to the highway test. The road was straight but filled with several hills and dips. The M360c was able to successfully detect both CO and QT shots at 4.3KM (2.7m) in both scenarios against Ka. I have yet to experience any IO, but left the test fairly confident. Off axis may be a bit trickier for this detector, so hoping to do that test soon and will be lining up another test tomorrow.

Arrows are pretty accurate, transition nicely with little lag and I find them very usable. I like the arrow presentation quite a bit over the original M360, which some friends run and I have tried.

Overall aesthetically pleasing detector and UI when paired to the app. The Escort Live app is a nice feature to configure and change settings. The Escort mag mounts are also the best in market IMO. They're sturdy and very easy to remove from the mount when needed with little wear and tear to the detector.

Cons

This may be a user issue, but when I have cruise alert set (20MPH) while traveling over that threshold and I alert to a new K band signal and then fall below the cruise alert threshold with the same signal acquired, the alert is still audible at reduced auto mute volume. It does not mute completely as it should and as other detectors with low speed muting do normally. The same applies the other way. If I’m in a parking lot, turn on my car detect a below speed signal it’s muted. If I exceed the 20MPH threshold with the same signal acquired, that signal is still silent. I’m not sure if this is a settings issue on my end, but something that’s been a bit annoying. I have tried this several times now both with the app connected and disconnected to rule that out. I have also tried turning cruise alert off and things work normally. Increasing cruise alert to a 25MPH threshold didn't change anything.

As I've seen in previous threads, I’m also noticing several weird Ka band falses on v1.12. I saw several falses over the past few days (all 1 signal strength Ka) that would hang for several seconds and then go away.

Here are some examples while driving up and down the same road a few times:
  • 34.340
  • 34.820
  • 34.100
  • 34.280
  • 34.820
This persisted in several passes on the same road. I plugged a friends Redline EX (Highway mode, TSR off, non segmented for the test) in and it was silent to these Ka falses on the same road. When I plugged my detector back in, the falses were no longer existent on the same road as well. A power cycle seemed to stop these alerts on the same road on a couple of other passes, which I thought was very odd. I will be segmenting to 2/5/8 to help cut back on some falses though alot of them will still fall within band range and wasn’t going to touch it due to no performance gain on segmenting the M360c. Thought that I would ask if anyone has any other suggestions on this issue? I see that others have reported similar Ka falsing. It wasn’t just this road, it was several of them and very annoying to deal with.

Lockouts are a risk with Escort if you run this detector in a K band prevalent area like I do. I was driving around testing automatic lockouts with my Bushnell and while detecting signals in the 24.189 range, my detector was silent at full signal to my Bushnell gun operating on 24.123. All K band signals seem to be muted in a wide area until you the source is well passed. This could be a deal breaker for me where I live as K band is still used quite a bit. I prefer a tighter signal lockout (10Mhz-20MHz tops) for added protection.

MRCD falses are frequent and annoying. I have experienced several each time that I drive, most of the time in places that do not have MRCD anywhere nearby. The R7 is way better at keeping MRCD falsing to a minimum by a long shot.

Laser detection is not very good, almost useless actually. I did 3 test runs with my UltraLyte LR B, which is a pretty easy gun to detect and the detector was silent on front and rear shots on all tests. The detector will alert if I'm in the vehicle directly shooting it from a few ft away. Though a laser alert won't save you in most cases, I like to know when I'm being targeted by laser, as I do not have jammers in one of my vehicles and could mean the difference of continuing to speed and make things worse, or slow down when being acquired by laser. Not to mention the off chance of a scatter save. I am interested in testing the R7's new VPR gun improvements this week and will be lining up a Dragon Eye for testing.

Wireless update took forever in my garage (1 hour). My signal was average (about half strength) which is likely why, but didn't expect it to take this long. Unless you have a strong garage signal, I would just plug it in to the computer. Takes a few minutes but the option to update wirelessly is good.

MRCD test videos

I did several passes last week, but here's 3 of them I got on video:

Max360C MRCD Testing
  • Run 1 - Not so good. Other tests were closer to the first run performance.
  • Run 2 - Sufficient performance for most situations
  • Run 3 (R7 on v1.33) - Very strong initial signal acquisition with it falling off and then re-acquiring. I don't generally see the R7 do this when going against MRCD and could have been a matter of radar going on/off, which might have impacted the M360c first run as well.

Regarding your Ka falses - many of these new vehicles have laser guided cruise control which has been know to set off our Ka band at this frequency. My RL 360c used to false to this a couple times each week but I haven't seen this in a while so I wonder if ne of the firmware updates resolved this.
Also, Satellite dishes, PoE Routers, Weather Stations, even cattle tracking devices in rural areas all give off Ka signal in this range. While annoying, it's not cause for service.

Seems to be a software issue. The falsing is every 10-15 min on my M360c, sometimes more. I ran a RLEX yesterday for most of the day on 1.15 non segmented and didn't false to Ka band once while driving in the same areas. Plugged the M360c back in late last night with minimal traffic on the roads and same issue. I was falsing to multiple Ka signals (bouncing between several unused frequencies) for several KM's while the only car on the road, even when segmented 2/5/8. Not a peep on Ka with the R7 either in the same areas. Something going on with the M360c for sure.
