A thread dedicated to discussing the new (updated) BSM filter with FW 133.141.113!

Feel free to share your findings..the good and the ugly!

For the BSM improvements, the ones everyone buzzes about.. them CX-5's, Honda/Acuras..and FCA's! 🥵

How will it handle the [email protected] H_R? 🤔

🚨I'll update the OP with significant findings, if anyone requests it! Just tag me in the post, or PM!🚨

I'm updated and going out now to do a quick "first impression" test.

Quick observations. Had a 24.168 hit in front, heard 2 beeps and then the beeping stopped. The signal still showed until it passed (arrow flipped to rear nicely) and went out of range. Strongest signal was half scale. Had another encounter on 24.117. Same type of behavior, but top signal strength was only 1/3 scale. If that is how BSM frequencies are handled, that's fine with me. You get to be alerted, and then it shut up with only visual display. That works.

Great 90 degree off-axis Ka alerts with LEOs in parking lots. In one case I made a left and the LEO was continuing straight. I had the alert from behind for some distance as we drove 90 degrees away from each other. Other normal encounters had great range with a lot of warning. I even had a SO car running K band, and I saw it start low and ramp up to full scale as he passed me going the other direction. 24.111, if I remember right. And all the door lockouts were showing gray for long distance. In a couple of cases I got the alert on locked out door openers for an increased range that muted once I got a little closer. Both K and X seemed to have better sensitivity. I noticed this because I know these routes well, and know that it was alerting just beyond normal lock-out range.

If this is any indication of what to expect, I'm pleasantly surprised, and liking what I see and don't hear.

One complaint: Voice volume was always a little low. Well now it seems even lower. I normally kept my alert volume on 6, but I can barely hear the voice announcement at 6. Voice NEEDS TO BE LOUDER.

I haven’t taken it for a drive yet, but I also noticed this from hitting it with my K gun in the driveway. It sounds like the alert tone is slightly louder which makes the voice sound quieter.

On a positive note. I’m very happy to see the “quiet ride alert volume” adjustment. I run quiet ride at 90 MPH for a peaceful ride. The problem was the volume 1 alert didn’t get my attention. Now I can set the QR volume to 4ish so I can hear the double tap alert. That’s all I want and need for K band.

I also took advantage of the “Rear K Mute”

I’m going for a long drive tomorrow to go camping (there is a thread for this now ). I’ll see how it goes then.

Now that's a nice little trick!

Not sure I'm excited about the Rear K mute option. I'll have to play with it and get some more feedback from other users on it.

On one hand it'll stop the opposing lane traffic BSMs, on the other it's like turning your R7 into an R3 for K band. And it'll negate the rear horn attenuation feature. I wish they could have separated that attenuation feature out to effect K band only.

Maybe one nice feature to add is a QR for Rear K only. That way you still get the mini alert and then Q.

I'll have to watch that Rear K Mute thing a bit more. Don't know what that will actually do in a "sneak attack from behind" scenario.

As far as auto-mute, I'm happy Uniden released this version before that feature is available. I'm good with all my manual mutes. I really went out of my way to canvas my entire wide-area coverage. Into parking lots and all. I got every damn one of those buggers locked out, so no hurry on getting that feature out before it's ready. I might not even upgrade when it does become available. The Escorts were locking out BSM everywhere, and that is not a good idea. I actually may prefer manual lockouts.

I also want to thank all the Beta Testers for helping to get this stuff right. I can see there was a hand from our RDF crew that made some good choices in this update. :hatsoff::neckbeard::thumbsup:

So does it look like if you get a BSM alert that it can't fully filter out, that it gives an initial audible and visual alert and then provides a visual alert only?

if so I think that's a clever compromise that isn't too bad in my book!

It's very early to tell for sure, but that is what I'm seeing. I can live with that!

I'll just take my R3
And go home then
They have been pretty good at bringing the applicable features over to the R3 in the past. Hopefully they do so again.

I just remembered this post from a few months ago indicating that they are now analyzing the waveform in the bsm filter. Maybe they alert quickly then do the analysis to look for bsm indicators.

Could be. For IO and QT, that would make the most amount of sense. Shoot first, and then ask questions later.

Again, this afternoon, I watched a forward 24.168 display for a while, but not alert. Other K Band frequencies in the general area did alert. I think they might have come up with a workable solution.

What is everyone else seeing?

Uniden doesn't make it easy for all us Mac users out there. I always just boot up Parallels to make it painless, but otherwise...

Times this would be nice to have two R7s to compare the released fw to compare. When I get @Brainstorm69, plan is to compare his to my current @129 and then set to 133, and if I get enough seat time, see how 129 vs 133 vs his fw compares to daily. Post them findings and hope to have videos on that as well.

Of course I go for a drive and there are no Honda/Acura BSM offenders to be found. I did encounter a Buick Enclave that was NOT successfully filtered. It hopped between 24.077 and 24.177.
