I’m thinking the Auto Lockouts might be a tricky service to code and tweak/implement.

They've had how long to perfect it?

Thank you for posting a checklist. Excellent detail. This is one reason why I really prefer connected devices. instead of banging series of shirt collar sized buttons in just the right order and timing to make a single change, with a app all this time/effort is avoided. With a app, easy to peruse inventory of settings. Plus, factory reset best practice aren’t most of these changed to default on every F/W update? I am on 1.24, and typically with R3/7 have not been doing factory reset.

I look forward to running R7 with new FW in coming weeks.

I did do the factory reset. And yes, I used my previous Excel setting template to go step-by-step until I hit the areas with new menu settings towards the bottom. Then I had to edit my spreadsheet. The menu edit timed out on the first addition. The next two I kept toggling ahead and back while editing with my other hand. And I had to remember to be in Advanced mode and do those extra button presses to change colors and all. Went through it all a second time to make sure everything was right. PITA, but the spreadsheet helped me to dial it back in. The biggest problem is the timeout. Doesn't give you much time to "think".

Overall, I like what it is doing. I had another 24.160 BSM hit this morning, and it alerted briefly, then only showed on the display until out of range. Good compromise. Low noise, and good visuals.

I agree. I really am spoiled by simply loading a profile from my phone. This is the one thing missing with this detector. Each has its one thing and for Uniden the means to update via phone or augment the detector is its thing. Now I am debating if I want to update or just wait for the “big one”.

Why spend money developing something that may not get implemented because of legal limbo.
Companies usually go ahead spending money after development is approved to proceed.
This is probably an accounting decision so to avoid potential wasted monies.

After you’ve updated the firmware you would just reopen the Uniden R Series Tool program and then reload and/or load the latest db file from @Mithheru

When everything is finished, perform a factory reset. 👍
Just downloaded everything and it's working just fine. One thing I noticed there is expert mode I really couldn't see a difference between advanced mode and expert mode? What is it? Any different.
I still had rear mute through advanced or expert I couldn't tell anything that was different between the too... Thanx

The two modes are Basic and Expert. City, Highway and Advanced are sensitivity settings within both modes.

There are additional options that show up when switching to Expert Mode from Basic Mode.

Here's the write up from @Vortex that details the differences between the two.

Can somebody explain the K Block option?
Post automatically merged:

Disregard.
Nope, too late. Going answer for future reference to readers who see your comment and are curious.

There are particularly strong and annoying signals that Honda/Acura vehicles emit from their blind spot monitoring systems in the area of ~24.195 to 24.205 GHz. The nature of these particular emitters are very, very similar to the emissions from actual LEO K band radar guns, at least in the way that most current detectors receive and analyze signals.

Given the prevalent nature of those models of vehicles, the strength/annoyance of the alerts, and the relatively small window of GHz that those emitters operate in, Uniden opted to create a notch at that frequency range to block all alert signals in that bandwidth.

It is possible a legitimate LEO speed enforcement could be operating in that range, and due caution must be exercised when using the K block function if K band threats exist in your area.

LOL, too late....

I might add that the RL360c and now the newer Max models have a K Block feature nearly identical to Uniden.
It's the K Band cursed spot...

Uniden needs to update their data base more than 2 or 3 times a year, this will leave you venerable to new cams added between updates. Once a month would be nice.
Honestly, it's better to use multiple databases, such as a combination of Waze and the internal Uniden database. I have had multiple instances where one alerted, but the other didn't. Had I just been running only Waze or just the Uniden database, I could have missed a RLC alert.

If you would like to have more updated DB for a detector that you paid one time only, at $400-500, for free on that RL/Cam DB, you are asking a little more from a Detector provider. You need to move to Escort for that request, or JBV1/Waze which doesn't require $$, but the likes of another that can update you faster with others drivers like us.

I already regret buying the 3 year Escort Defender database for my Dad's Max II.
It was money for very little benefit in our area at this time.
The Max II is behaving poorly enough I may upgrade him to the R3 or and R7 after AutoLockouts come.
For a newer Max or Redline the Defender would be more justified for those in intense camera areas.
App users have it better for free if they choose to do so.
Even Google Maps is providing locations, Waze, Highway Radar, JBV1, etc. All are good options.

Actually, Uniden does recommend it. I would do so.
Yes, absolutely, you MUST do a factory reset on this one.

You seem with the lawsuit that happened a cease and desist order would have been enforce. So no they could do now work towards the auto lockouts. They more than likely had submit code architecture and archives to the court as evidence.

So that has put them how far behind because of that? Copyright battles can take years and then once settled development may take time to relearn the code architecture.

So be patient with them, at least we maybe can get it, eventually. 🧐

It doesn't matter to me as I'm satisfied with the way it is now. Some may forget they advertised auto lockouts when this was originally launched, so suspect they already had working code (Who knows how bad or good it was at the time).
I think Auto Lockouts will be the icing on the cake and suspect they will release it or have timings somewhere in line with Radenso's release. My guess would be to try and take some of the wind out of their sails/sales :)

I am not going to update for awhile. And when I do, use @PHILBERT exact methods. It is total PIA for me to take these chicklet buttons, keep within timeout, and go through UI that has almost doubled with stuff to tweak. Sure, I am a CM hobbyist, but tired of the wasted time and chance to make mistakes. This “factory default” requirement is silly example of bad code, IMO. Uniden SDS-100 takes a meticulous detail oriented person to upgrade and load databases. Even with a PC interface. Uniden seems lazy when it comes to the user UI. Their cost of goods for plastic and lower cost electronics should leave them enough space to add integration to turn R series. Their main competition has this. Enough chirping. Just saying.
