People keep claiming K-band isn't used in CA. Here is a recent picture of a Falcon HR by an LA County Sheriff in Lomita.

Keep K-band on folks. LA County is huge!

Ruh-roh. Yet another scourge in CA. I've always been jealous of your weather and needing only Ka!

Hopefully thats the Talon and not the HR, but it’s really tough to tell. Either way, they’re both deadly I/O guns and this sucks to see.

Update: did a bit more scrolling down their Instagram. Found an ancient Pro1000DS still in service. As far as I know, this was a K band only gun. So yeah, K band is still alive and well out there. Sorry for you California folks.

Been saying it for years. Thanks for confirming. Theia can't come soon enough. K-band is just about useless over here with all the BSM and CVSs.

I've never owned a Talon but unfortunately that sure looks like the view from my old Falcon HR.

The display and back of the Talon and the HR look the exact same. The only way to tell is the side, which isn’t really even legible here.

Falcon on the left. Talon on the right. Notice the red?
Patch antenna on the Falcon.

Thanks @Heywood! Looks like that confirms it to be a Kustom Talon in the original picture, so 35.5 Ka Band. Still, seeing a Pro1000DS brings evidence over to K band being around out there as well. And it's not far fetched for it to still be in service; there's still a few being used in my neck of the woods.

No. It looks like a Falcon HR. Red boarder around the red insert.
Low powered K band 24.125.
My Falcon HR is in the left
My Talon is on the right.
I misinterpreted your post, thanks for the clarification. It really isn't safe to shut off K band anywhere...

It actually looks like a Talon or Talon II. Based on the blurry Insta pic. HR doesn't have the blue graphics on the side that the blurry Instagram picture seems to show. I have seen 35.5 coming from these patrol cars before, as well as K-band.

Also the barrel of the Talon is octagonal along the entire barrel, but the HR changes to square at the antenna. Blurry insta pic looks to be octagonal along the entire barrel, but hard to tell honestly.

On my last two trips to Vermont, I witnessed what I believe is this low-powered K band. The detector basically doesn't see it 'til you're on top of it. I've been lucky as it's always marked on VVwaze, but I never see this in MA. Not sure what to think. A resurgence in the K band religion? :(

The rear display on the Falcon matches the picture.
The Talon doesn’t have the same display.

This is from the Talon manual.

The Talon II datasheet on Kustom's website shows that same red oval under the display, and the same speed acquisition screen:
Seen that too.... but the manual and me having both physically in front of me, tells me that the OP’s picture is that of a Falcon HR.

You can’t even find a owners manual for the Talon II. Even right from the source. Kustom Radar. Just pictures.

Not sure if anyone has one.

Fair point. How about the straight-through octagonal barrel vs transition to square at the antenna? OP pic looks to be octagonal all the along the barrel, which would indicate a Talon.

And here's a Talon II with an FCC sticker that claims it to be an HR at 24.125:

I give up.
