Finally got my v1g2 remote display.

Wow the LEDs they use now are super tiny, no way you can do this without the right tools.

One thing cool compared to the g1 is you can custom the arrow colors also if you like.

I decided to go with the following on my unit to mimic what I did with my g1 unit.

For the bands:
L - blue
Ka - red
K - orange
X - green

For the signal (from top down):
Purple
Pink
Red
Orange
Yellow
Green

obviously you can do any color order or combination.

no scraping anymore!, i kind of figured it would be the case since the BT led is blue and the overlay wasn't different in that spot.

Too many colors for me, but awesome you got this done yourself. I would just want the bands in different colors only.

Nice work [emoji106]

Well @SwankPeRFection sparked my interest. The concealed display and the main unit share the same front panel board.

one would be able to just buy a concealed display and have it modified, and if any issues be able to swap it back out if it ever had to be sent back to the factory.

i opened my v1g2 and connected the concealed display to it to prove this.

also makes it an easy way for people to upgrade to color if they wanted to instead of sending a full unit.

Wait, just so I understand, I can mod the CD and just remove it and install it in the v1 and it all fits? Just making sure I understand

I think all blue like some of the old Escorts would look cool. I may be in for an all blue CD.

Only issue is the 7 segment display will be still red, i have yet to find a replacement in another color that is a drop in. I did find some that would take a slight mod, but think it will work. I found Blue, Green and Amber ones, so it may be nice to match some current car interior colors.

Yep, they share the same ribbon assembly, how smart of V1!

My guess is the 7 segment display is likely a Broadcom HDSM-281C. The appear to be available in green, orange, yellow, and red. If I were you I would de-solder the stock display and see if there is a part number on the back; that will let you 100% verify the pinout and possible replacements.

I seen those, and would be the closest, I looked up the one v1 uses and one segment is different for the pinout, so a slight mod would need to be done. The brand v1 uses they only have the red.

What part number does the V1 use?

Lite-on LTS-2806CKR-P see if you can find one that will drop in, the closest was the one that you posted that i found before also.

I like it. I primarily see Ka and K so I would want those to have more contrast than red and orange. Blue for Ka and orange for K. Red would be fine for laser and X which I never use. I am good with red or color for strength.

Here's the Lite-On single digit LED page. Unfortunately it looks like red is the only part number in that package size:

The LTS-2806CKR-P is a 10.8 x 7.3 mm package (target size).
The LTS-2807CKD-P is a 10.0 x 6.9 mm package.
The LTS-4812CKR-PM is a 15.0 x 9.8 mm package.
The LTS-5825CKR-PR is a 19.0 x 12.5 mm package.

I see a dual digit LTD-2404SW-P (white) but it's 10% smaller (10.0 mm high) and is way too wide.

I think your best bet is to go with a Broadcom part and deal with the differing pinout. Their website has this terrible page that you have to keep clicking on "show more parts" until it shows them all... (There is are search parameters but they appear to exclude too many parts when you select "common anode".) Here are the common anode, 7.5 x 10.8 parts: HDSM-281B (blue), HDSM-281C (red), HDSM-281F (yellow), HDSM-281H (green), and HDSM-281L (orange).

I did a parametric search on mouser.com and there are some other parts to look at: VCC Electronic Components, Kingbright, Inolux, and Lumex all make some slightly larger displays (7.3 x 12 mm).

They way I would deal with the mixed up pin out is to use Kapton tape to insulate the display from the pcb and then some wirewrap wire to make the connections. I typically use 28 awg but Belden does make 35 awg in white.

Here is mine.. not to crazy ( NOT hijacking your thread...
When the OP says your going to need the right tools, your going to need more then that...
These leds are like trying to hold a flea on a board will trying to solder it...
Might change directional arrows in the future..
Note the blue (KA) is a perfect match to the BT blue.. camera is funny with the colors..
Shout out to the OP for the Help[emoji1303]
IMG_2590.jpg

The strength meter is yellow- 2 orange and then red... although the camera doesn’t show that.
And KA is blue and k is green.
I didn’t bother with x or laser.. never see X and laser is... well a false or a
Ticket so no sense in worrying..

Love the contrast from Ka to K. Best I can do is solder wires for extension or repair no surface experience.

I went in to this with the attitude like, I got this.. and then after I removed the first LED, I was like... idk I think I might have made a mistake lol..
There not as easy as one might think..
As far contrast? Yes I wanted to do 2 totally different and my last one K band was yellow and it just didn’t sit right...
