I have an LI system that I picked up several years ago to get familiar with but never got around to installing. Originally the sound board worked, but now it seems like it has given out. On the internal speaker or an external speaker (with the right jumper settings) the speaker makes a popping noise and the led flashes. I'm currently "testing" it using a laser range finder. This makes me think that it still works but that the audio board has gone out. Is there anything I can do here to try and fix or restore audio other than buy a "new" CPU?

When you power it up I assume you do not get a Welcome greeting?
Have you tried turning the CPU's volume trimmer screw back and forth several times to see if it might free-up any corrosion on that analog volume trimmer?

Once when I received a new CPU, the audio did not work right after i installed it - but it did when I tested it. I opened it up and there was a bad solder for one of the lines to the sound jack. I would check that also.
